almost famous wrote:Wasn't it statistically proven that JR and AI/AC were better defensively than AC and AI? JR isn't a horrible defender, but he does tend over play his man and get lost in screens. If he could learn sag off a bit, awareness, and to better pick when to go in for a steal, he'd be a pretty damn good defender. Of course, those are mental things and take time to master.

I'd hate losing JR to the Cavs, but getting West back in return would make me feel somewhat better. JR really would be an awesome fit next to Bron though.

Speaking of JR, my friend interviewed him at Las Vegas and said he's looking a lot thicker, muscle wise. I guess getting pushed around by Kobe lit a fire.

JR and AI was the best statistical backcourt combination.

But for whatever reason people are bent on keeping AC in the equation despite his weaknesses on both ends of the floor.

JR is exactly what the Nuggets have needed since Melo has been in Denver. Josh and AV would do 0 for the team's three point shooting.

I don't think there is any offer that can be realistically made for JR, that would make me happy. He is way too important. Plus those who claim he sucks on defense, didn't you see the improvement he was making in that area? He'd most likely be even better now, if the AI trade never happened. He needs more in game experience. But I do remember the Spurs game near the end of the year, JR actually played good D on the flopper.

I have a question... Do you understand the concept of team defense? Obviously if you have on of the best scoring duos in basketball and a great offense and can't make it past the first round there is something wrong? On top of that lost your best defender for nothing don't you think your team needs atleast a little team defense? Av would be a great addition for denver not to say he is worth j.R by any means but he would definately benifit your team, along with being a great help defender in the half court he's just as good in transition and would get alot more easy buckets on the nuggets than the cavs due to their faster pace. If there is a sign and trade im sure he will be involved. Yet i still don't think the cavs have the peaces to get a deal for J.R. with what they have unless we were willing to part with draft picks or do a 3 team deal. JJ hickson looks like a really nice prospect but im not sure Denver would really be all that interested in another scoring powerfoward.

No offense, but your post shows you have not been following the Nuggets. The Nuggets did not have a great offense last season. They were only average. Karl did not want to be bothered to actually coach last season, so didn't put in a real system. It was all iso. The team also had Camby, who hurt the offense a lot. They had AC starting, who teams could leave wide open as well. You are right though, there is something wrong. It is called Karl.

You are wrong about Denver losing its best defender. Camby was not. He was the teams most selfish player though. If Nene can remain healthy, he is a huge upgrade over Camby.

I never said I wouldn't mind having AV on the Nuggets though. He would be nice, but I wouldn't give up anything worthwhile for him. From the sound of it, his Agent is toxic and will be demanding too much money. But even if AV was brought in, it wouldn't do anything to help the team defense. The coach in Denver doesn't understand the concept of a team.

I have a question.... Do you watch more then 2 Nuggets games a year, or just repeat other peoples comments, most of whom do not watch Nuggets games. Your ignorance of the problems and strengths of Denver shows throughout your whole post.

As for Verejao he is not worth a 22 year old with the talent that jr has displayed. The truth of the matter is that AV is a taller version of Najera (whom I love) which makes him a fan favorite, unfortunately there are quite a few 6'10" hustle players floating around the league, and not many 6'6" shooting guards who shot over 40% from 3 last year and has the skill and talent to be an allstar within the next three years. If they want a guy like Av I am sure thy can pick up a ton of them with their trade exemption. The cavs have no where near the trade pieces to convince Denver to move JR.

I wouldn't take Varejao for free with his contract demands, let alone would I give up JR Smith for him.

Didn't feel like starting a new thread but have you guys heard how contract negotiations are going with JR? Has there been progress or are the two sides still far apart?

The news had an article last week saying that an agreement in principal had been reached.

Return to Denver Nuggets
