I think, especially considering his age, it would greatly increases his chances.

I think it would put him over the edge. Of course not a first ballot, but long-term it can pay huge dividends. I could be wrong on this, but I remember during one of his starts they were talking about how every pitcher with 250 wins had at least one 20 win season, which just goes to show how incredible (and durable) Moose's career has been. This great season for Moose is important because it means he will pitch again next year and maybe beyond, so he can definitely get to 300 wins. He may need 3 more years to do that, though.

It would put him on the right side of the borderline hall of famer category. If he wins 20 games this year, and gets up to around 280 for his career, I think he would have a great chance.

He will not go in on the first ballot. He'll have to wait a few years after his initial eligibility. But it would give him a very good chance to make the Hall of Fame. I think that after he retires the scope of his career will be analyzed more and the BBWAA writers will see how impressive his career has been, especially since there is virtually no pitcher that has a chance to win 300 games in the next few decades.

I agree that it would give him that extra push into eligibility. It's so frustrating that it has that kind of impact, though.

Wasn't there a stat out that every pitcher than was 100 wins over .500 for their career is in the HOF? He is what 264 and 151 according to baseball reference. Add a 20 win season and I think he should be especially considering the competition he has faced pitching in the AL East his entire career and during the steroid-era. -Jitpal

Didn't Don Sutton make the HOF without a 20 win season?

He did win 300 games though.
