Wow, I'm very happy that the crowd gave a HUGE cheer for Chinese Taipei and Hong Kong.

Im watching on the CBC feed.
One reporter, i think Peter mansbridge made an insightful comment on Russia invading Georgia today, and then looking at Russian and Georgian athletes standing beside each other.
Then you have Ron MacLean be like ahhh...The thing that hit me was 'insert old man name' won't be calling the 100 meter dash...
Ron Maclean, your a douche. Mansbridge...you're cool ****.

What about sex or religion, do we have to leave those outside too? Is this like a conversation with in-laws?

I hear alot of people over there were undercover upset about the lack of originality from the producer/director of the ceremonies (same guy that did House of the Flying Daggers or whatever). He used to be a big shot movie dude and then started settling for popcorn flicks like the Chinese version of Jerry Bruckheimer and they thought he would get back to his roots. Instead, they contend, he pandered to Westerners by showing stereotypical Chinese traditional outfits and ****, the things they eat up, instead of trying to show a more mondern China.

I dunno if I agree with that at all, but I guess it pertains to the thread without getting political.

1992 Barcelona Olympic torch lighting will be the greatest ever. No one can ever top that one.

It was pretty impressive but I came away being a little bit disappointed... They had too many acts that didn't fit the ceremony... They had like 2 or 3 parts that were just completely (Please Use More Appropriate Word) and uninteresting... Like the bunch of school kids drawing in the middle of the field... What was that about? They had a lot of random scenes that were just wasting too much time.

That one was awesome too, it was really creative and risky, but I didn't understand the point of shooting it with an arrow. When Li Ning did the run against the unfolding of the chinese scroll it actually meant something. The entire event was artistic, it wasn't just to impress but also to teach. I thought it was too deep for its own good though, most people on TV wouldn't understand the meaning of the calligraphy or the modern dances and shyt.

They spent $300mil on these opening ceremonies. The only way it could have been a failure is if Isiah Thomas was directing

It shows human achievements. It's simple and it was a classic. The Chinese had too many stuff going on at once. It was too extravagance. I didn't like it too much. Plus.... running on the Chinese scroll didn't really mean anything... They were just broadcasting the torch run around the world... so??

No... The whole ceremony wasn't that deep. Sure.. They were showing off Chinese inventions and history and blah blah blah... The whole ceremony was meant to impress others... You really don't have to think too deep into it...
