OT: American players favorites of the Chinese

Post#1 » by TommyTheCat » Fri Aug 8, 2008 10:33 pm

interesting read

This is why Kobe Bryant is the greatest sports icon in China; not Yao Ming, not Yi Jianlian, not even groundbreaking hurdle-champion Liu Xiang.

This was the prevailing sentiment amongst those polled in the sold-out Qizhong Arena in Shanghai that was painted with 24s and 8s.

I just read on yahoo's homepage that Kobe got one of the biggest ovations at the opening ceromony. I missed it, but I hope ESPN or some other site is gonna have it. haha all the youtube clips are being removed as i'm typing this.

Kobe Bryant
This was the oddity of the night. Behind the Chinese president and the entire national team, the one athlete who appeared to get the loudest ovation was none other than Kobe Bean Bryant. The moment was so odd that even U.S. journalists were looking at each other in puzzlement. The Russian, Chinese and American presidents were here, but Kobe was the head of state tonight.

No offense to any of you for posting this article or anything but saying Kobe is a bigger Icon in China over YAO MING is taking stupidity to another level doesnt suprise me its coming from an ESPN Blog.
