Yao Ming, WTF?

Post#1 » by Houston Suns » Mon Aug 11, 2008 8:16 am

I'm pretty sure alot of you all saw the olympic game against China.
I know they say that people play better with their national team, but did you all see the fiery passion and leadership that Yao Ming put on display.
Even though they got destroyed, he was still into the game until the final buzzer sounded.
My question is, why cant we get that Yao MIng??
If not in the regular season, at least in the playoffs.
The rockets would definately be out of the first round, if he played with that passion.
He looked fearless and i liked it.

Our team is EMO IMO. We cry when we lose.

Ron ron on how commited he is to the team.

Because to some people it's not about the money. A lot of the newer generation Americans don't understand what it's like not to be American or what it took for us to enjoy what we have today. Yao plays for his country and so does his teammates. He gets "watered-down" over here IMO because his team (T-mac) doesn't play with the fire that he does. After a while, you get tired of busting your ass. It's like when you start a new job and you're the hardest worker there and then you look around and there are people that make a little bit more than you and don't even work as hard, so then you slack off. Same thing here, he comes over and sees the lack of patriotism and drive to promote the "group/team," so he slacks off. I can't blame him.

Its going to take awhile for Yao to take the leadership role. He can do it obviously from looking at the Chinese National Team, but it needs a lot of time for him to be comfortable doing this. Also, chinese tends to be humble and I doubt he can do it as long as McGrady is here, since he sees him as his leader.

Look, he's been in the league 6 years. He's 27. He's only 3-5 years from hitting the downhill side of his career. If he's not doing it by now, he's not ever going to be likely to do it.

Also, if McGrady's personality is strong enough to merit deferral from Yao, how weak must the force of character of the rest of the Chinese national team be?

Probably still more comfortable with his national team. Language barrier as well. But comeon...I have seen Yao plenty fiery with us.

he was great to watch out there. i was hoping one USA player would compliment on him on how great of a job he's doing being the face of the country hosting the Olympics.

If you dont like the thread, then dont post in it.
Your posts are not needed in every thread.
I was just posting my opinion, about how different Yao played against us.
If you didnt see the difference, then fine, dont post your ignorant thoughts.

It's much easier to get hyped for a short tournament than an 82 game grind. And we didn't see that determination from Yao last yr against Utah,because....um...he was injured and didn't play, maybe?

As to Rockets team leader,it's Alston. McGrady may be the best player, but he is not a vocal leader. Alston is the one encouraging, complimenting, urging on,calling out the players.

Several USA players complimented him. Many specifically pointed to actual moments including Yao taking the initiative to show (and make) a 3-pointer to begin the game.

Is it just me or has Yao lost a significant amount of athleticism? Or is he still recovering from his injury?
Regardless to say, I was rather disappointed in Yao's performance.

What? Don't you remember last year when Yao took off from inside the no-charge zone and almost dunked on Nate Robinson?

After the Olympics Yao's wife should demand a 2 week honeymoon in the Bahamas or someplace similar where Yao can be the world's biggest beach bum and decompress.

because
1.4 billions >>>> 1.9 millions
olympics >>>> NBA regular seasons

Yao played hard in playoffs too (did you watch game 7 in 2005?)

Yao unable to play in 2008 NBA playoffs
of course Rockets fans are disappointed
just using population of Houston here
1.9 millions people will be disappointed
back home in China there are 1.4 billions people watching him in Olympics
how many times do you think they see Yao playing for China now?

if you don't like what Yao is doing
they go root for another player and team

btw
in NBA 1 lost is 1 lost
in Olympics how many points you lost is used to determine the tie-break
