Yi Jianlian vs USA

In 25 minutes Yi shot 4 for 13 (31%) 0-4 3pt 1-1 Fts ended up with 9pts...3 reb 2 TOs....nothing impressive vs the NBA's allstars...I watched the majority of this game and saw nothing special, maybe I missed something...considering who the competition was, I can understand...

yup im on the same page then again yao also did struggle, although he did some nice slams...

He's not ready to carry a team and Yao's not healthy enough to do so .

Remember how horrible RJ was in 2004 ? Nothing big to brag about especially considering how bad China's guards are.

Remember that rookie wall he hit back in February? Back before the Milwaukee Bucks got rid of him?

He's still hitting it.

"You know, what I did see from him in the fourth quarter was resilience. He struggled, but he was still being aggressive. And as a young player you like to see that out of him. He has a lot of growing to do, but he's going to be terrific," Michael Redd said afterward of his former Bucks teammate, who he described as a nice, Americanized kid already well-versed in U.S. street lingo.

To which I responded, "Well, you guys got the better of that trade."

To which Redd quickly responded: "We did, oh we did, we did, we did, we did. We're happy, no question." (I played the tape back five times to make sure I had an accurate count of "we dids.")

And somewhere back in the States, we're guessing a certain president of a certain team whose relocation date to Brooklyn grows ever more uncertain … well, we're fairly certain he turned off his TV Sunday morning having a hard time feeling good about what he watched from Beijing -- no matter how happy he was for his old friends on the staff of USA Basketball.

I saw the game.

IMO this game isnt a good thing to judge Yi on. Besides the 1st quarter and the 3s the China guards were hitting, this got ugly fast. I also think that this olympic or european style of play favors guards more then F. IMO Outside shooting is more important then inside game unless you are huge and can muscle your way in. This game would have been lost by 40 or 50 if it wasnt for the guards hitting 3s.

As for Yi, towards the end of the game you saw some really bright spots for this kid(20 years old). When they put Yao on the bench the game opened up for Yi. He had this slashing dunk. Then they game him the ball in the low post. He had a sweet turn around jumper. IMO the kid will be good.

Yi was garbage and is so far shaping up like what I predicted a soft bust.
I would love to eat my words and watch YI grow into the next Nowitski but so far its becoming less and less likley.

Even months later I still cant believe we gave RJ for him...............

well yi was surrounded by no-talents compared to team usa. When Yi plays for Nets he won't be playing against any teams with 12 all-stars. So I'm sure he'll be doing a lot better when hes playing for the Nets. I'm sure if you put Kobe with yao ming vs a bunch of allstars, kobe wouldnt do so well either.

Yi looked like garbage yesterday and he looked like he had no heart to compete out there, which was an utter disgrace.

Yi smells like another one of Ratner's cheapskate schemes....i hope this kid wakes up and actually starts giving a crap about his craft because his body language and what i saw on the court showed someone who is softer than doggy doo and could care less about the sport. Yeah, it was in a game against 12 all stars but effort and intensity should ALWAYS be there no matter if the shot isnt falling.

Considering how young Yi is, international rules, an international court (Even if he is in front of his home crowd), you take the game against 12 NBA all-stars with a grain of salt. By this logic, Yao's injury will forever hold him back for scoring only 13 points and shooting 3 pointers instead of taking it in the post.

^^ Sorry, but Yi isn't as young as advertised. There are some very substantial sources who claim he is atleast 24 years old.

And there are some very substantial sources that have him as 20. NBA lists him at 20, so until then real undeniable proof comes along about his age, he's 20. Either way, he's only a second year pro.

Please provide links. krstic could be 30. Have you seen his bald head? The point is he has talent and he needs some development. VC is old and he still needs to work on his basketball skills. What is your point?

There are also substantial sources to prove he's 20. Don't talk the BS unless you have concrete proof.

I do believe he is 24, but I do not believe that it matters. GMs and scouts are recognizing more and more every year, as preps-to-pros players physically break down faster than their 4-year college counterparts, that biological age is not as important as the numbers of years you've spent playing NBA ball. What matters more is that he is entering his 2nd year in the league, as a skilled, athletic 7' bigman.

At this point in his career Yi Jianlian is a role player not a superstar, I have no idea why many of you are holding him to such high standards :roll:
