OT: Olympic Notes (NON-BBALL)...

Post#1 » by DubaLakers » Mon Aug 11, 2008 7:33 pm

I think it be nice to start a Olympic thread for NON BBALL related NOTES from the games...

The swimming has got me fixated. I'm not crazy about the breaststroke, but the rest of it is GOLD.

Last night they had the 4x100 relay. It was the last segment of the late edition. The french were the overwhelming favorite. Rowdy Gaines former gold medalist and current color analyst said, "He'd played this event in his head a million times and it always came out with the same result, France wins everytime I analyze it."

Phelps is involved in this event adding more drama to his GOLD sweep, 8 for 8. I'm like, "Damn I thought the only tough one was the 400IM, now a relay where we aren't favored and he has to rely on 3 others? Oh no!"

He had his toughest race already and got gold the 400IM and got the WR as well as the GOLD. Even more drama the french were talking mess. "We are going to smash the American's, that's why we came here." The one doing the talking was the one who swims the anchor leg of the relay.

The same one who got PWND on he final leg where American Jason Lezack, who's 32 going on 50, had the FASTEST LEG IN OLYMPIC HISTORY and won by a hair, an incredible comeback because the American's were clearly in second the entire race. He caught up the final 10 feet, just an amazing victory. It was the best swim race I have ever witnessed, just an amazing will to win comeback.

I hope you guys were able to see this LIVE. It was like the last segment LIVE before midnight. The guys were pure emotion after the victory, complete with Swartzanegger pose downs. It was like Kobe hitting a last second shot, pure joy to watch. I wailed out a scream, a "Woooooo!", in my asleep by 8PM everybody but me neighborhood, with the window wide open to save on AC bills. .

No one on the west coast gets anything Olympics live.

I did watch it though. Good thing I wasnt online when it happened (live) so I didnt come across any spoilers. I saw it when it was first broadcast on NBC here on the West Coast.

Im not much of a swimming fan, and I hardly know anything about the sport, but even I realized how amazing of a relay that was. Instantly, you knew you witnessed history.

I dont remember the last time I cheered like I did last night for anything in the olympics, much less for a sport I know nothing about.

I feel the same way ^^^. I couldn't care less about swimming; in fact, I wasn't sure how much of the Olympics I'd even watch beyond basketball. But I'm getting totally sucked into Phelps' quest for eight medals. What an amazing accomplishment that would be. Great job by his teammates, particularly the anchor, for keeping it alive.

I do watch the games when I can, DVR makes it easy to take a lot of them. Just do not run to Sports Center to see what happens, that make the games kind of new. 2200 hours I read somewhere are going to be TV. Overkill I think.

Isn't NBC streaming all the games live on their website? I watched Baskteball and tennis yesterday.

I DVR all day and jam thru them at night. I blow by all the gymnastics to save time. The Chinese are killing anyway, a class above it appears, especially team wise. The individual gymnastics I would think the Americans can grab a few golds. Watch all the swimming, and must watch TV is Misty May & Kerry Walsh, kick ass athletes destroying the competition in tiny swimsuits with great butts!
