Barbosa Question?

Post#1 » by GameTime_3 » Mon Aug 11, 2008 7:12 pm

Whats he worth to you guys? Are you looking to trade him for a younger more defensive pg or are you trying to clear cap? What does miami have that you want?

Would you guys accept. Haslem/Cook/Banks/2 second round picks for Barbosa/Raja Bell

SHAQ-Lopez
Amare-Haslem
G.Hill-Diaw
M.Barnes-Cook
Nash-Banks

I don't think the Suns would want Banks back but how about Barbosa/Bell for Haslem/Cook/Wright (S&T)?

We don't need Haslem if we still have Diaw.

We just gave you Banks and if we take him back in that trade we will have given you Bell, Barbosa and Marion for O'Neal, Haslem and Cook.

Come on now. Suns get absolutely shafted in this trade.

Something involving Diaw and Haslem would be possible.

No way will we give up Bell.

Before Barnes signing Haslem + Cook for Barbosa may make sense but now thats not a good option anymore.

I like Miklo's idea of something with Diaw + Barbs for Haslem + others. No way Bell is going ANYWHERE unless he gets us LeBron or something.

EDIT: something along the lines of:

Suns send out Diaw + Barbosa for Udonis Haslem, Mark Blount, Chris Quinn (2yr/4mil?)

Works for both very well.. but Miami has to take on 2 contracts for 1 extra season, althought they would be able to make playoffs easily with
Chalmers
Wade
Beasley
Diaw
Mourning?

i got an even more betterer idea, and yes i said betterer. why not just give diaw and barbosa for marion.

now, we have another large expiring (maybe he has been humbled and understands he doesnt deserve 17mil/year) i doubt it but maybe. he can shoot, defend. everyone said we needed him last year.

it sounds good in my drunk mind

Flna, no thanks. We don't need Marion anymore. Barnes is a very poor man's Marion and doesn't have ego issues. I'm not up for giving up Barbosa and not getting a backup PG of his quality in return. Quinn is solid as a backup IMO. Yeah, he's like Nash in the sense that he sucks on defense and has no height, but he can run the team for when Nash is out and can start for some games and would be a solid bunch scorer (replacement for Barbs) off the bench. Especially if we are getting Haslem and Blount, who both expire 1 year earlier than Diaw and Barbosa, we would probably pull such a deal (maybe a 3rd team involved for a more lucrative PG).

Do you know how much money we would have tied up in 2010? NOTHING. Literally NOTHING. :D We could pick up THREE super stars (ok pipe dream but go with the flow) with that.. resign amare, pick up bosh and JJ. Amare goes back to C and Bosh PF and JJ SG. say 20mil/year for them all 60 mil in salaries we are still 20mil under lux tax. use half MLE on 2 guys, sign rest vet min guys. MLE would mean 66.5mil total salaries, then we have 13.5, and 7 guys to sign :D. LLE on one, resign nash for 2year/5mil or something, get bell back too for some deal like that, and we're set..

Dragic/Nash
JJ/Bell
vet min/ vet min
Bosh/ vet min
Amare / Lopez (H)

EDIT: I just rethought the Marion idea, and its not as bad is it seems. We could play Barnes off the bench at the 2, and start Marion. If they could sign Quinn to a 2 year / 3mil contact and add him to the deal along with Joel Anthony and we throw in Tucker, I think it works perfectly.

Nash/Quinn/DJ
Bell/Barnes/DJ
Marion/Hill/Barnes
Stoudemire/Anthony/Barnes
Shaq/Lopez/Anthony

Anthony / Barnes give a lot of flexibilty because of their versitility (Barnes can play anywhere from 2-4 while Anthony can play BOTH big positions. He is a SOLID defensive backup at both positions, would complement nicely off the bench). Not really that bad an idea :O

^^^^ my whole point is capspace. jj is the least likely of all of them to come over to us. but there are several more. the other thing is marion, can flat out play. barnes is not even close to marion. a very, very poor mans marion at best. he is not a starter on any team. any player can start when everyone else is hurt, marion can start any time.

marion gives us a defender who can put up a fight with both kobe, and tony parker. noone can stop them, but you can slow them down.

i am happy with signing barnes...... as a backup. he is very good in spurts.

quinn............. i am not sold on him. he is a defender. thats it. nothing more. quinnn is a poor mans version of doug christie, who was a poor mans version of bruce bowen.

marion also provides us with rebounding, and scoring. when has a play ever been run for him.,

he was my fav player, unti he started moaning. my loyalties are suns first. that is my whole reason for the trade.

Why is everyone so quick to want to move Stoudemire back to C? He is a scoring power-forward. Besides, with Stoudemire down low you don't need another scoring presence like Bosh there with him. It would be a waste of money on a guy who would, or at least should, get touches behind Amare.

I like the JJ push I seem to keep hearing on here. But if Wade doesn't go to Chicago, he'd be the guy I make a push for. Try and balance out the scoring throughout the team rather than have it focused down low with guys like Amare and Chris.

PG -
SG - Wade or Johnson / Barbosa
SF -
PF - Stoudemire / Diaw
C - Lopez

That's not a bad skeleton team. Fill in the SF with a defensive utility guy like Prince and hope you get lucky with your lead PG.

Is Wade a possibility? I think so. We will have Stoudemire and people will think twice before not coming to play with him here in the valley of the Sun. He'll be an MVP by then.

^ No he wont. Read the Amare for MVP thread or whatever. I've dicested why he won't be an MVP until Shaq/Nash are gone. Yeah, people want to play with Amare, but not at the cost of losing 15mil+. Also, WADE isn't going anywhere. With the bright future their club has with Beasley and Chalmers (who I believe will be a Gary Payton type player), Wade is not leaving. JJ on the other hand, will likely leave with the incompetency of the Atlanta Hawks front office to negotiate contracts. He could be had back here, and as much as I hate his guts, he makes complete basketball sense. We don't need another 2-gaurd that cant shoot. Wade is just that. I'd rather have JJ over Wade for the simple fact that he is a HUGE outside threat, and can run the point just as well as Wade. About the Bosh/Stoudemire thing, they are completely different players. Bosh is a much more 'finesse' type player, who likes to take that outside shot a lot more, although Stoudemire is becoming versatile on offense and developing a similar shot. Stat still loves to go inside and get the easy one's more, especially the dunks he gets. If Nash does resign with us for a 2yr period at the right cost, and we add JJ and Bosh, moving Stoudemire to C is not a bad option. Hell, Bosh could play C if Stoudemire prefers PF, because BOTH these guys would be in their PRIMES. Team's would have THREE guys to think about double teaming, which is impossible. Ofcourse, Nash, who has gotten better even past his prime, will still be a solid outside threat and extremely good passer no matter what. Only position we would have a problem at is SF. I like your idea of picking up a guy like Prince though ;)

Maybe if there was a third team involved, Suns, Heat , Pacers.
Suns out Barbosa, Diaw, in Foster, Williams, Tinsley
Heat out Haslem, in Barbosa
Pacers out Foster, Williams, Tinsley, in Haslem, Diaw

The Suns get a capable starting type PG as a back-up and a good hard working big with a expiring, Williams has potential as a SF/PF but is still young. All three new players get plenty of playing time as back-ups.
Heat get someone that they can try to use as there PG.
Pacers get a couple PF that they desperately need.

Money why's the Suns atleast part ways with Diaws bad contract and get expiring, Barbosa and Tinsleys are about the same contracts.
Nash, Tinsley
Bell, Barnes
Hill, Tucker
Stoudamire, Williams
O'neal, Foster

Return to Phoenix Suns
