Lakers CONSIDERING this lineup
Bynum
Gasol
Bryant
Odom
Fisher
Odom at the two guard? He is going to have to play on the perimeter anyways so why not have him up top initiating the flow of the offense? It will create matchup problems against most teams and on the defensive side of the ball he can guard the bigger wing player.
Kobe can certainly handle the switch the the small forward position.

Re: Lakers should consider this lineup
Was just going to start this thread...
Cite your sources:
Maybe change title to Lakers Considering Odom at Guard...or something like that?
Interesting idea, defensively not sure how Lamar would do at the two. We all know Kobe is more efficient at the 3 though...thoughts?

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Lakers agreed to terms with guard Sun Yue, who is playing for China and will face Kobe Bryant and the U.S. men's team Sunday in the Beijing Olympics.
Sun has played mostly point guard in China but Black wouldn't specify his role with the Lakers, saying it was a coaching decision. Derek Fisher and Jordan Farmar were the top two point guards when the Lakers lost to Boston in the NBA finals.
The Lakers are considering moving Bryant to small forward and making frontcourt player Lamar Odom a guard.

Re: Lakers should consider this lineup
Odom would rather fit well at the 1 with Luke starting at 3 or Fisher at 2. He sure has the handles and if he can play smartly. He surely can defend most 1s.

Re: Lakers should consider this lineup
It's not 2 or 3 as much as its 2 wing men. Defensively Lamar will likely defend the better of the 2 opposing wing men. Offensively Kobe will play the role of the 3. Kobe would still be listed as a 2 and Lamar as a 3. Their roles would just be flip flopped.

I see the same line up as last year. No need to change what got us to the finals.

I suggest playing Kobe @ the 2 and leaving Odom off the SL.

you realize Bynum wasn't apart of that, right?
and that Radmanovic was, right?
and you remember losing, right?
as for citing sources, a bunch of people on this board have floated that idea long before BSPN came out with whatever. that was the first time i'd seen it anywhere else besides the Lakers board.

BSPN didn't come out with it. They are saying what the Lakers are considering, which means it's not a suggestion, it's an actual discussion amongst the team.
Also, you apparently read the article, it would be a more engaging of a thread if people knew it could be a reality...not just another suggestion by a member of the board.

Re: Lakers should consider this lineup
Actually the idea of Lamar playing a guard position was brought up in June by Mitch Kupchak in his exit interview:

Re: Lakers should consider this lineup
It really doesn't matter to me. The only thing I care about is winning a title.
SF:Bryant
PF:Gasol
C:Bynum
SG:Odom
PG:Fisher
that is a pretty big line up.

Re: Lakers should consider this lineup
fisher/odom/bryant/gasol/bynum....am i missing something about whats different about that lineup?
teams aren't going to all of a sudden put their sg on odom because the lakers decided to call him a guard. defensively, i see no reason for the lakers to put kobe on bigger sf's that he can't body up or odom on smaller sg's that he can't keep up with. you're looking to discuss changes in their roles, not in the lineup. guards are going to guard kobe, forwards are going to guard lamar.

Re: Lakers should consider this lineup
^ you missed the point
it does create problems for other teams because now they can't really effectively use the zone if Kobe is going to be open for threes all game long.
Jackson moved Jordan to small forward all the time and had Pippen run the point.
obviously Pippen is a world class defender but it gives the players different roles on the court, which means other teams have to adjust to that.

I still don't see how LO works spacing wise at either spot. Paul and Drew will make essential to get another floor spreading shooter in there, otherwise we're just lane clogging.

Re: Lakers CONSIDERING this lineup
Odom at guard? That's more speculation isn't it? Not much substance to that story.
Anyways, there's a good reason why Odom has played increasingly in the frontcourt after starting as a perimeter player in his first year under Phil. Because he's struggled with shooting and decision-making in the halfcourt. Phil's original plan was to keep kobe at the wing and high post where he could do the most damage - 81 point game, 40 point average during a month. Why would you mess with that? Because Odom struggled to play on the perimeter - forcing him and Kobe to swap positions.
The triangle is a fluid offense, but there's still general patterns and tendencies, and Kobe's been our point guard for the past 2 years.
Anyways, considering the Lakers re-signed Vujacic for a substantial contract, and brought Sun Yue over (despite that being our deepest position), one can read in between the lines.
