Looks like we shipped him off to OKC for a 2nd round pick. Nice.

I have tried very hard to back management in their moves, but this is just bad. No way will NJ be picking worse than 38th in the 2nd round next year. We picked a guy and then basically traded back. It is a losing deal and poor management.

No way? Who exactly do they have? Vince Carter...and thats it? Lopez? That team will be lucky to win 35 games.

Weaver seemed like a nice prospect, but its clear we are trying to win now and S. Brown pretty much duplicates him.

They have Harris, but yeah, I'm thinking they'll struggle to get very far, and VC is due some time off during the season.

I don't know Brown from Adam, but he was a late 1st pick right? LB obviously saw something in him, and if he can bring even part of his potential out we'll have got a steal. I've read what the Cav fans said, but I'm willing to let one of the greatest teachers in the game try and work some magic.

I figured we were going to end up cutting Weaver (having him and Brown made no sense), so IMO getting that 2nd was pretty darn good work.

I really dont understand this move...we traded a guy who we got in the second round for another second round pick in 09. I think I would be more irritated with the move if I thought Weaver was the best player we could have selected in the second round. Whats done is done so hopefully we can get a steal of a player in the second round of the 09 draft. In the mean time I would hope that Cats management is trying to fill the rest of the roster spots with more productive players.

sigh....Weaver had such a great personality also! now we have no one in this year's draft pick class that is a good public speaker. DJ is too mundane and frenchie can't speak english very well. i hope weaver doesn't turn out to be one of those bench lockdown defenders like lindsey hunter or something in the future...

Totally disagree. Being a 2nd round pick we might have decided to cut him, essentially wasting the 2nd round pick we got. Instead, we see that he doesn't fit into what we want/need and churn him out while getting a 2nd in return.

I actually applaud the FO on this one, they actually got value back in a trade, something they don't see to do that often!!

Well I was on the Weaver bandwagon on draft day......guess I was wrong and should have gone with Hendrix, CDR, or Walker.

I agree with Slam
After we signd S Brown it was clear we will let Weaver go. At least we got something out of it.
I think Weaver is a nice guy witch would have fit to the bobcats, but now we are in need for a PF and with weaver gone we have a Roster spot.

We traded a guy who probably wasn't going to play much for a 2nd round pick from the Nets in 2009. The nets being in rebuild mode, will probably wind up picking right around 38.

So how is this a bad trade. The Shannon Brown signing kind of indicated that Weaver was probably not for this team.

Well we will see if this trade is bad or not once we go through a few seasons and see how Weaver does and who we draft with the pick. I actually thought that Weaver would've been a nice addition to the team. The thought of having him with Augustin and Carroll off the bench sounds solid to me. I guess management saw something they didn't like.

Instead of giving up Weaver for a 2nd round pick next year I wish we had have kept him and intead given up Ammo for a top 10 pick next year or McMay for a 1st round pick next year!!

(1) I don't like 2nd round picks to begin with.
(2) I did like drafting Weaver, given the type of skill set he was reported to have. I think he would have fit in well with this team.
(3) So, we trade someone I think would have fit in well with this team, for an unknown commodity that I usually couldn't care less about.

At worst, I think Weaver could provide the same sorts of things Brown will provide, except Weaver has the chance to develop into a decent niche roleplayer. I don't think Brown will ever amount to much more than he already is.

It seems like another case where we are giving up the future to win now, and I am not usually in favor of those type of moves. I don't like giving up good players (or players with the potential to be good) for lesser players, just because someone is impatient.

How is bringing in Shannon Brown a "win now" move?

I could understand is Weaver was traded and a more established veteran was brought in.

Brown has played 44 games and is 22 years old. Kyle has played 0 games and is 3 months younger then him.

Kyle really didn't do all that special against summer league competition.

So I'll say this, this is kind of playing out like the overblown reaction to every single Knicks move by Knicks fans.
