That's my point, Kobe has this notion that he would play overseas if a team in Italy offered him 40-50 million. Something no Italian league team would do. The quality of the league is irrelevant in this case, all that matters is that the league cannot offer him the amount he is looking for. I am surprised no one mentioned this to him.

In Europe only a russian petrol-billionaire could give that amount ... maybe those crazy brothers of Olympiakos ...

But Kobe knows very well that ... he knows how the things works in Europe ... he has got many contacts here ...

If there is an italian team with good chances to have Kobe, it's probably Armani Milan ... not just for the $, but also for obvious reasons of merchandising and advertising ...

In any case I think that Kobe will at least close his career in Italy, just like McAdoo.

i'm sure he knows this. saying he'd make the switch in leagues if he could play in italy doesn't mean he thinks its a realistic option. its just what he'd ideally want. people read too much into it.

the only thing that should be taken out of this is that if the situation is good enough, he'd consider it. no need to get into the specifics of what an italian team can afford.

Kobe would get bored of the domination. He gets bored dominating a lot of NBA teams. Can't imagine what kind of stunts he would pull in games, scoring 50, 60, 70 points whenever he felt like it.

I think he is just talking out of his arse hoping to get attention.

Lakers' guard Kobe Bryant claims that he would consider playing in Italy for $50 million a year when he becomes a free agent next season, according to The Orange County Register.

"I'd go. I'd probably go," Bryant said when asked by a reporter if he would think about playing in Europe for an outrageous contract. "Like Milan or something like that, where I grew up."

Looks like he would go.

Man, $50M is a lot of money to say no to, unless of course, his US advertising deals will match that. Hell, he already won 3 rings anyway, its time to make some money lol

It's one thing for someone like LeBron James -- who has never hidden his financial aspirations -- to talk about leaving the NBA for the chance to earn more than he could in the States.

But I always felt that Kobe was playing for legacy.

How would playing in Europe effect his legacy?

Would MJ, Magic, or Bird play in Europe for more money? I don't think so.

Just my two cents...

Legacy is relative. If he wins the ring this season, another MVP, Finals MVP then go to Europe then win the Euroleague and get the MVP there? He might not have the greatest NBA legacy but he can cement an image as the first player that made basketball truly global.
