Seriously, the best guys available to be signed for under $3M:
Pargo - my favorite choice
Landry - sounds like a reach, and has some injury questions
Fazekas - I would like to see more of him. We give up defense if we bring him in, so I don't see it.
Ratliff - a final stop before retirement? I think we get more out of him than we would with Magloire or Lo Wright.
Dixon - Do we have room for Juan Dixon to come here in the event Pargo is not an option?
I don't see where Elson has actually signed, but he sounds like he is headed to Milwaukee.

^^^I wouldn't mind Pargo, Landry, or Ratliff, but I don't think we can get Pargo, Landry can't play [Edit: Center] (not saying he might not be our best option anyway though), and Ratilff is about the same as Mutombo, just a little smaller, with less rebounding but he could play some minutes every game.

By the way, I've lost track of the guy, but did Zo retire? Is he too banged up to block shots for 15 min a game or so?

Zo is not retired, but he is out until midseason with that injury was the last I heard.

Problem is that until we have a confirmation of the structure of Smith's contract, we don't know if we had this 3M remaining from the MLE. In reality, we have it, but ASG won't go over the tax threshold, and to know exactly how much money is available, we need to know the first year salary of Smith.
We have 13 players under contract, the minimum number.
If it's a standard contract, it will be $10M, then we would have the 3M to spend.
If it's a flat one, with 11.6M, we could use this 3M and have a 14 players roster.
If it's huge front loaded, there should be no more signed player.

Hoopshype has him listed at 10 mil for the upcoming year, but they may have jumped the gun.

The ESPN trade checker confirms that it's a starting salary of $10M.
I wouldn't mind the additions of Juan Dixon and Jake Voskuhl. I think you need some veterans off the bench.

Re: What's left to do?
I used 10M in the "Salaries" thread, but we need confirmation. 10M is the correct first year amount for a 58M/5yrs contract, but it would a surprise if it's not a flat or front loaded contract, or it would mean that MEM really helped us, unless it was just the contract asking by Josh with ATL not wanting to give until he prove other team is ready to give him this kind of offer. Would also mean that Josh was not asking for 13-14M like said.

Re: What's left to do?
Just like Rod has said, Memphis really helped solidify the roster for next year whether we pick up another player or not.
Isn't is reasonable at this point to just renounce Chills' contract? With the ASG giving up his number the moment he leaves, you have to believe Chills will not be back. Are they holding it as a trade pawn for the next offseason? I could understand that as well but it is costly at this cap level to get nothing for that block of salary. Aren't we getting those results with Claxton already?
Since the ASG have already stated that there is enough youth on this roster, you have to look for a vet that will accept a role off the bench behind Evans, Zaza and Acie.
Not sure we are going to find anyone with any more talent than a Ratliff willing to accept a bench role and limited minutes. I think Pargo would be looking to be the first off the bench in his next role. But our biggest weakness IMO is still the frontcourt. We don't really have any room for any long term injury.

D21- memphis only had about 10 million in caproom- I don't see why it would have been frontloaded. Memphis basically gave Smith the biggest contract they could. In fact they could have renounced Navarro and given a bigger one then unrenounced him after the Hawks matched but they didn't even do that.

Re: What's left to do?
Hmmm, I totally forgot that MEM did not have lots of cap room. You're right
So it can only be a contract starting at 10M
(I just check and they did not have enough to offer a flat contract)
td00, i doesn't change anything to renounce to Childress now. There is no salary, just his cap hold, and even if we release him, the team is over the cap and don't have more money than now.
With the confirmation of Smith first year being at 10M, it means we can use the 3M remaining of the MLE and sign another minimum contract without going into tax zone.
Releasing Childress at this moment doesn't help anything. So better to keep his rights for a comeback or a sign-&-trade, because unless ASG let walk Bibby and Zaza for nothing next summer (we would only be able to sign a big F.A. but only minimum contract to fill the roster), we won't have more than MLE to sign someone next summer, so better to keep Childress' rights and be able to "sign for MLE + do a trade with Childress".
So it can only be a contract starting at 10M
