What Point Guards are Left?

Post#1 » by mAgic4Lyfe » Tue Aug 12, 2008 8:36 pm

I've just been wondering, does anyone know what point guards, young and/or old, are available via trade or free agent signing because it seems as though our options are running out. :sigh:

I know it's risky but with Jameer, Johnson maybe a bit of Lee and Hedo I think it's worth the risk.. Shaun Livingston. I'm a huge fan of his and would LOVE to have him on the Magic..

i would only agree to livingston for the bare minimum becuase of his injury. I think he'd be a huge risk to take but if he's the only one left....why not?

But i would prefer someone else.

At this point, the Magic are either dragging heals on the Crittenton deal, or are happy with two PGs.

A combo guard might make more sense than a pure PG for the #3 depth slot. Or a FA rookie.

Otis said he wouldn't take a chance on Livingston... I would if he came cheap.

Resign Penny..

Just kidding.
Basketball is driven by three principles:

1) Movement 2) Application of fundamentals 3) Predictability

If Livingston would take the minimum I think Otis would have to bring him in. The risk would definitely be worth the reward if he is healthy.

somewhere in one of the offseason threads... he was addressing the Tinsley/Marbury rumors and said something like has he ever been the type of GM to take those type of players... then he said that he wasn't interested in Livingston either... but now with no PG's left he may take a chance

Livingston has the potential to play some SG even if he no longer has hops.

Another possibility for the "injured few" is Jay Williams. Not sure how healthy he is, but he wanted back last year.

Livingston turned down a guaranteed min. deal from the Clippers last week, he wants more $, so dont expect him to sign anywhere for the min...

Earlier in the summer, I remember reading an article on Shaun Livingston on ESPN.com, and he said he would like to go to a team where he could get good minutes and possibly start. Right then, I immediately ruled out Orlando as a possible destination. But as the offseason is coming to a close, he could be a little desperate just to get signed. It's no mystery that we need a 3rd point on the roster, and for the minimum, Id take him. If hes fully recovered from his injury, he has the potential to be the pg he was when came in the league, with high hopes of running a team of his own. And, he could take minutes away from AJ, or he could play SG off the bench with him (I like the double PG game Team USA plays with DWill and CP3). It's not much of risk if you give him the minimum. He could end up being a steal for the team that signs him.

The Magic have to get a young PG. I dont feel comfortable with two aging PGs prone to fatigue late in the season. They shouldnt break the bank for a 3rd. JCritt seemed like a good fit, but it seems that talk around a trade has died down.

I like another PG, who I think is still available (I could be wrong) and just got released from the Knicks- Taurean Green. Our team can offer him a small contract and hed probably come to Orlando. Id take a chance on a PG who led the Gators to two n'tl titles.

He's an idiot. After that injury he is lucky he even got an offer. Also I don't blame Otis for not take a chance on him. I don't care what Livingston or his agent has to say, I don't think he can come back and play on an NBA level. That injury was the worst I've ever seen.

Id chance it on DeJuan Wagner before Livingston...I just dont see Shaun returning at any sort of high level after that injury..i hope he can for the kids sake but i cant see it. At least DeJuan reportedly has a new colon or whatever...
A smart coach once said, "Potential just means you're not good enough yet." Playing on potential is like living on air: It's essential, but if thats all you have, you're eventually going to starve.

I like Taureen Green too, hes young and id think he'd love to be back near UF lol

I thought we should have drafted him, he was available but we didn't take him.
