Ben Gordon

Post#1 » by Harry10 » Wed Aug 13, 2008 12:24 am

i just wanted to bring this topic back up.

the best the Hawks could offer would be Bibby and a first round pick for Gordon. i'm not really sure what the Bulls position is and what other teams are willing to offer.

We need Bibby because he is our point guard and Gordon is a below average passer for a two guard, let alone a point guard.

"Point Guard"??? did you watch Bibby last year? Bibby's PG skills and Gordon's PG skills are the same, in that it is none.

facts harry. Bibby gets twice as many dimes. Bibby can run the break and is very good at the PnR. True, in the halfcourt he is mainly a scorer but it more from spot up shooting because he isn't really athletic enough to create in any other way.

Gordon, on the other hand, is a pure scorer. He isn't a particularly good ball-handler and has pretty poor court vision in the half court and on the break. He has a variety of moves that he uses to create his own shot in the half court.

I agree with cob, Gordon is a poor fit as a starter here. He doesn't have the PG skills and isn't an improvement on D. Furthermore, the money wouldn't work out. Gordon would be BYC when signed meaning the trade would have to be larger to make it work probably creating more holes. Another thing to consider is that the addition of a large salary commitment to him would make it very unlikely to afford Marvin and Joe both.

Exactly. I would consider him a pure shooting guard because he does not possess the quickness and/or play making ability of combo guards like Crawford,,Iverson,or Ellis despite his lack of height.

Another point for Bibby is that he is the closest thing we have to an offensive coach based on some comments I remember after he came over last year about suggestions he made and impact on the offense sets.

I could imagine the offensive production of our front court players and team as a whole dropping off alot if Gordon was our point guard.

I am completly ok with Bibby being our PG for this season.

The same PG skills than Bibby ? It's a joke. Even if Bibby never was a true PG, and even if he decreased his performance, he still a better better option than Gordon at PG.

Gordon is just what Salim would be in a dream, but not a PG.

A Joe/Gordon backcourt can produce the same numbers than a Bibby/Joe, with Gordon or Joe being the PG, but I am pretty sure that the other players would produce less with Gordon than they can do with Bibby.

I would bet on Bibby averaging more than 7ast/game this season, while you can expect more than half of that from Gordon.

How can anyone with any professional basketballl knowledge say that Gordon has the same PG skills as Bibby ? That's sad.

We still have that Ben Gordon wants more than 10M per season. Is that money well spent?

yeah, that is way too much, Devin Harris signed an extension worth $8.4M a year..... so Gordon's realistic range should be between $5M-$8M

Bibby does not really create easy baskets for his teammates . However....that's alot different than not being able to beat a press or even run a pick and roll. Ben Gordon is as much of a point guard as Salim is.
