Of course that is true. We have proved that 134698234 times. But some people can't change his mindset to understand us.

So you're telling me if you meet an asian person you will pull your eyes back to make him feel welcome? Or if you invite an asian family to dinner at your house you will greet them at the door with the slanted eye gesture?

I am just asking-- not attacking.

They typically wear the attire if it is for the World Cup because it is clear you are talking about the soccer team.

The problem with the Olympics is that they have to wear the uniforms so its clear what sport they are. The advertiser clearly want to makes sure people know its the Basketball team and not the swim team. They could just have just had chopsticks trying to hold basketballs. They did the slanted eye thing instead because they probably thought it was cute and simpler without any idea that it would be considered racist etc. If this had been the World Championships of Basketball or something they would have probably been wearing the attire too on top of it since it would not have to be pointed out that they are the basketball team. Typically the sillier you can make the NT look the better.

LOL are you serious, how can that be a friendly gesture anywhere. It would be like for Australians to go and hold some bottles of petrol for a promo picture for NAIDOC.

At first, you were ignorant. Since we have proved that 134698234 times you are just stupid.

Of course not. Its not the same anywhere in the world.

And I am not accusing you or your people of ill intent. Do you get that part ?

Spaniards openly mimic people from the different areas of Spain. It is really clear when the lovable mimicking is mocking in Spain. They tend to make it VERY clear. Spaniards are not ones for subtlety.

believe it or not. But here in the USA we dont have a racism group where we meet every monday to bash others in our country and around the world.

First point on the agenda: Spain.. how dare they do that. Quick get a media guy here and lets call them out

There are plenty of racist people in the US and I am not making any excuses. I am here understanding both Points of Views from the Spainards and the Asians that I know.

Based on that -- I am getting attacked for being an american and being ignored over and over when I say-- I respect and understand Spains culture and I dont feel this was meant to be offensive.

I am so sorry, our village is very poor, we can't afford to go to a country such as Spain to learn how advanced your country is. I am sure your horses is at least a foot taller than we have in our village. I am your horses can kick ours ass. I am too ignorant that I only understand what's acceptable in my own village, I have no idea I would offend other people I don't understand.

So the "slant eye" is an affectionate gesture? Who knew?

Its not like Spain doesn't have a history of racism against athletes of other races.

I mean the Lewis Hamilton thing was just a misunderstanding. Luis Aragones was misquoted I'm sure. And those banana's and monkey chants at the England / Spain game were all in fun.

Samuel Eto', Carlos Kameni, and Roberto Carlos are just a bunch of whiners who don't understand spanish affection I guess.

That tends to be true because racism in Spain is usually about ignoring the other group. For example, not speaking to them or not serving them at a restaurant.

It would all depend in the context they are doing it. Spaniards are not subtle and quite brutish in every day conversation. Mimicking others is considered a friendly gesture.

If something is VALID, it doesn't mean that I have to USE it. I mean, I could salute somebody in 12333 ways. I just wave my hand. Is I meet somebody from Asia, I will just wave my hand. This doesn't mean, that if I pulled my eyes back, it's wrong.

Fact is if you watch the China vs Spain game, Spain was booed all night long. Thats about 17000 pissed off Chinese. Whether the picture was intended to mock or not, it angered a lot of people. Spanish national team should apologize.

I don't live in Spain. Born and raised in Canada but with Spanish relatives that is why I understand this whole contextual thing. The way Spaniards talk in every day language can be insulting if you don't understand the context or customs.

You just made clear that you can't understand another place's culture, and your mind is square.

Congratulations.

Now stop posting, don't make a fool of yourself anymore.

Since this thread is going nowhere, I quit. Keep bashing Spain all you want to.

Another one who doesn't know how to read.

They booed Spain because they played AGAINST them. last night against Germany, they actually CHEERED them.

I'm curious how the Spanish culture explains Lewis Hamiltons treatment. Or the monkey chants and bananas thrown during the England Spain game. Or the treatment of Samuel Eto', Carlos Kameni, and Roberto Carlos. What part of their culture explains that away.

Nobody threw bananas. Urban legend. Get your facts straight.

The Aragones and Hamilton affairs, (who were blown out of proportions BTW) are blatantly and isolated cases of racism. We condemn them. No excuses.

Eto'o and Kameni are still playing on our 40 million racist country... Henry signed on Barcelona... I mean... do the math
