Re: Kyle Weaver traded to OKC
Weaver showed in Vegas that he has some basic foundational skill that will need a lot of time to groom, with no clear projection about his future contribution. Brown is young but has experience. You can tell what he's good at but also where his weaknesses are. A guy with experience and even limited success at the NBA level can get up to speed quicker and be more of a contributor that a rookie that needs lots of training. If we had kept Weaver he'd likely need the NBDL, which is where frenchie will be, and you can't afford that.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: Kyle Weaver traded to OKC
Guess I have a hard time caring about a 38th pick in a draft. He seemed like he was a good choice based on what was left, but they pretty much traded him for what most likely will be about the 38th pick in the 2009 draft.
Shannon Brown has shown some things, but I don't think you can really project what he'll become based on 44 games.
Neither guy was going to get much playing time. So, to me Shannon Brown and a 2nd round pick is better then Kyle Weaver.
After 32 picks, it looked like 38 would be a nice place to pick...but Chalmers, Dorsey, and Jordan got snatched up one after another. Giving up on a Big or a PG this soon is one thing, but a combo guard...meh.

No, not really. I almost never like the talent available in the 2nd round, never view the 2nd round picks as being worth much, and never like the guys we do select in the 2nd round.
I hadn't heard much about Weaver, but after we drafted him, I read more about him, and liked the type of player he was, and the type of player he could be. And I actually thought he showed some nice facets of his game during the summer league, whereas a few people thought he actually disappointed or something.

If he's just as "bad" as Weaver, why was he brought in? I assume it's because the team feels he is better able to produce now if we need him. So, yes, in my mind that's trying to "win now." Weaver may not have been able to produce much this season, but I would bet he'd at least be on the same level as Shannon Brown 1-2 years from now, so why give up on him now?

I just can't see this move as win now, even with your explanation. I'm guessing that this is someone Larry Brown has been following for quite some time.
Didn't say anything about "bad", I was talking about inexperience. Plus they are two different types of players.

Re: Kyle Weaver traded to OKC
I assume we brought him in because he's "better" or "better able to contribute now." Is that not right to assume? If we brought him in just because we've had our eye on him, well, why did we waste that pick on Weaver to begin with?
They may be different players, but that's even more of a reason to keep Weaver, given the type of skills he has. We could use a perimeter defender that can guard and play several positions (including be a 3rd string PG). What is Brown expected to provide?

Re: Kyle Weaver traded to OKC
not sure what people are mad at. Weaver was a 2nd round pick. 2nd rounders have an average career of 1.5 years in the NBA. How many of last years 2nd rounders did anything in the NBA. Brown is simply more NBA ready, but I am pretty sure he is only expected to play a very minimal roll with the team, unless something happens. The combo of Ray, DJ, JRich, Hammer,Crash, and Ammo will eat up all of the minutes at the 1, 2, and 3. they rolled the dice on Weaver, didn't like what they saw. They decided to take a flier on Brown and got a equal value pick for Weaver (who would have been cut for a BIG at some point anyway)

Re: Kyle Weaver traded to OKC
It doesn't seem unreasonable to me to consider Brown a better Prospect than Weaver. (Not that I'm in love with Brown's game by any means) Brown at least proved he could hold down an NBA roster spot on a reasonably good team, which Weaver has yet to do.
In the end, I'd say there's a 75-90% chance that none of this matters in the least. I'd bet even money with anybody that None of Weaver/Brown/Next years 2nd Rounder are playing in the NBA when they're 30.

if Brown shows the solid play he showed when Lebron got hurt in 2007 on the cats team wont surprise me if he takes Carrolls minutes as Jason Richardsons back up
