Who is our Third Point Guard?

Post#1 » by e4Nf6 » Thu Aug 14, 2008 10:53 pm

Felton, DJ and?

I guess there's plenty of time until the season starts but what happens when Ray or DJ is hurt? I don't think there is anybody else on the roster even vaguely able to play point. Not that I didn't enjoy the game last year sans Felton/Mccinnis/Boykins, where I believe Crash got the nod.(!)

Is it possible that the spot currently open, which some of us would like to be used on a 4 is being held open for a 1?

Our roster (in no particular order) right now:

PG: Felton/DJ
SG: JRich. Carrol, Brown
SF: Wallace, Morrison, Dudley
PF: May, Jermareo, Ajinca
C: Okafor, Nazr, Hollins,

That includes. By my count....

8 guys that can play PF/C (adding Wallace/Dudley)
8 Guys that can play SG/SF (Adding Felton/Jermareo)

Which translates to 4 deep at each position. If I was an Alien who just landed on this planet and knew nothing of May's Injuries (and Fatness, and Laziness) and how unproven Hollins/Ajinca/Jermareo were. The most logical 15th player would be a PG.

All the "Who is our starting 4" threads should read: "Who is our 3rd PG,"

Your thoughts...

I would think Guillermo Diaz from the summer league would get that spot. I hear coach brown likes his toughness, however the Cats may be trying to find a 3rd pg through other teams.

I'd rather use the last roster spot on a potential starting PF who might average 30+ mins per game than use it on a 3rd string PG who might not get off the bench.

If worse came to worse, I'd play Hammer or Swish at the point if we really had to.

Hammer would struggle through I guess, and he'd be my pick with the current roster, Jrich on the other hand would average 20/10 (pts/TO) as an NBA PG.

Other than Carl Landry, I can't think of any free agent that would be a sure-fire starter. We could just pick the best young 4 available on the open market and hope he improves dramatically. And then when Felton or DJ gets hurt (Surely they both won't play 82 games) we either have to stumble through 10mins a game with Swish/Hammer/Whoever as PG, or we have to cut one of the PFs we "Hoped" would work out and sign a 3rd PG anyway.

Why not just sign the 3rd PG now, and give May/Davidson some time to prove themselves while we look for a trade.

Hi there, here is a cat`s fan from Taiwan.

I thihnk we need a C or PF more than a third PG.Base on McMay`s healthy,he`s unhealthy time with Chalotte is much more than healthy. So we cant expect he will be there next whole season.

But if I should pick up a 3rd PG,I will choose Orien Greene. He also palyed the bobcat`s summer team, and he has 6`4.I think we need this type PG to let our rotation more flexible.

It's obviously going to be Shannon Brown since he is the only true combo guard on our team with both good passing and scoring skills.

LOL @ the thought of Matt Carroll running the point.

I'm kind of worried that the cats are going to continue to insist Okafor playing PF with nazr at center, and we will continue to be burned by PFs all next season

I can't believe e4 wants us to sign a 3rd PG and leave the PF to the great Sean McMay or Davidson. E4 (is that your PE teacher in the avatar photo?) seemingly would be happy to have Crash banging around again at the 4 and exacerbate the SAME PROBLEMS we've had for 2 seasons now!!

That is unacceptable.

If you're going to waste Crash by playing him minutes as PF then go ahead and trade him for a true 4. Playing PF makes Crash ineffective and contributes to his injury rate.

Brown was signed to be our swing guard. Carroll is the #2 PG or would slide up to starter if J-Rich is moved to SF (via a Wallace trade).

But Felts, Wallace, J-Rich and Oak are here to stay. Other players need to be used to secure our PF in a trade since the Cats obviously aren't interested in the remaining FA's.

Landry would be an interesting pick-up but he's restricted. It would probably take a full MLE with multiple years to get him. But I'm game if the Bob's are.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

My PE teacher?!?! That's Akiba Rubinstein, of course....

I'm not anti-new-PF, I realize that Crash isn't the answer, Davidson/Hollins/Ajinca still needs to develop and May will probably play about 15 games if we're lucky. I just think the guys available as free-agents (Except Landry) are not an upgrade. And if we give whoever is at the top of the heap guaranteed money, we are slighltly less flexible to make the trade that gets us our REAL starter at the 4.

Our new 4 is going to come via trade and not Free-agency....

To chime in, it could be a good idea to get a 3rd stringer in case Felton is not capable of running the show and DJ isn't ready. I don't have any suggestions, in fact, I've decided e4 made this thread to lure in the Keith McLeod fanboy that is only likely to avoid this thread because the Mavericks currently own his rights. :D

This is why I wanted to post. Akiba's wiki makes him look quite different that e4's avatar, which looks like Alec Baldwin playing Mr. Rubinstein. :D

welcome to the board harder.

i'm kinda with e4 on this one. i dont like having only 2 pgs. ideally we would have added a 3rd pg and another pf and not signed brown, but too late for that. since i dont think we'll come close to finding a pf at this point who will contribute, i'd opt for securing the pg spot with a vet 3rd guard.

This reminds me so much of last year.

"We need another PG!"
"No we need another PF!"

Truth is the Cats need both, just like last year.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Available UFAs:

Livingston, Cassell, Lindsey Hunter, Andre Owens, Darrell Armstrong, Jannero Pargo and Damon Stoudamire.

Anyone want to find a link for the bobcats.com article that dealt with the veteran minicamp? Orien Green, etc..

Edit: NM, easier to find than I thought:http://www.nba.com/bobcats/free_agent_minicamp.html
Andre Barrett, Gerald Fitch, Junior Harrington all seem like capable 15th men.

Going by what happened last year. Hammer started at the point, with mostly Crash handling most sets. JRich does not have the handle to be a PG or even a "combo" guard. S.Brown may, I am not sure

Have you read "The Defense" by V. Nabokov? It's really a first-rate depiction of a chess grandmaster going... (can you imagine what comes next?)... crazy. And by first-rate I mean first-rate. There are no inane grandmaster cliche's to be found, unless they are present just to be turned on their head. One of the funnest jokes is that the great defense prepared by Luzhin ("The Defense") against his foremost chess enemy is sidestepped; his enemy fails to use an expected attack in one of the match games, leaving Luzhin scrambling. But that's just a tiny nothing. The overall novel is indescribably magnificent, and more than a little sad.

I'm a little embarassed to say I Never had the pleasure, It sounds like a good book...

I've been told that Nabokov was a "real" chess player and even made some compositions. I've always wanted to read it. Books in English are a little hard to come by where I live, maybe I can find a bootleg copy on the internets somewhere.

I've never been offended by the "Crazy Chess player" cliche. It's a little like the "Catholic Pope" cliche, and the "bear-pooping-in-the-woods" cliche. How many World Champs have gone certifiably insane? Morphy, Stenitez, Fischer. If you don't include the guys still alive,(still time to go crazy) that's like 20 or 30 percent! There's probably an even higher percentage of Alcoholism.
