How good can Sean Williams be Nets Fans opinons.

Post#1 » by EddyCurryJoshSmith0502 » Wed Aug 13, 2008 12:33 am

Hey all Hawks fan here Iam from NJ about 5 mins from Izod Center I have seen Sean Williams play and he impressed with his pure raw talent and athelism kinda reminds me of poor mans Josh Smith with the way He dunks and Blocks shots. My question is how good do you think this guy can be I know his character isnt that great but he has loads of talent. Has anyone heard of him working on any parts of his game this summer and who do guys compare him too the nba today.

As of right now, I can't see him every becoming Josh Smith. As much of a nucklehead a lot of people think Smith is at times, he's a pretty dedicated baller. I love Sean and hope for him to progress, but I'm holding my breath. I'd actually be fine if he just developed into a solid guy off the bench for the next 5-8 years. As long as he can contribute consistently in some way is all I'm really looking for.

for some reason hes actually probably my favorite player on the nets. He has great athleticism and is a great shot blocker. He needs to bulk up, i think he did this summer but im not really sure. He also needs to develop a little more of an offensive game and be more disciplined on defense.

Sean needs to work on his strength, learn to use his brain out there on the floor, and learn his position.

I think Sean Williams can be a rotation - level big man in this league.

1st big off the bench for some teams, a starter on others.

Probably a double double guy with plus level defense at his peak.

If he puts on 12-20 more pounds, I would hope he turns into a Marcus Camby type player. Neither are really strong offensively but get the job done cleaning up people's messes and finishing strong.

He can be a boderline all star but under Frank expect him to be traded next year for a possible 1st round pick Marcus Williams style.

Sean is Theo Ratliff v. 2.0. At his peak and in the right system, assuming he keeps his nose clean, he should be a 1- or even 2-time All-Star and probably 3- or 4-time All-Defensive 1st-Team. He's THAT ill.

Good thread, though I have to admit, I'm a little surprised by this level of positivity. I was under the impression that after a jaw-dropping start to the season, Sean Williams didn't seem to progress, and may have actually slipped back. The emergence of Boone, the trade for Yi to add another big man (?) and the drafting of Brook Lopez led me to believe that the organization was planning around Williams.

Maybe I'm just mis-reading the question. I see now that its "How good CAN he be?" not "What do you THINK he will be?"

Let me ask that one -- who could he be, and who do you expect he will be?

I think Net fans know he's gonna be a project and know he's gonna have ups and downs before he shows some form of consistancy, but for his rookie year, I think he did just fine considering where we drafted him.

I don't really worry about the fact Boone is higher than him on the depth chart or anything.

But again, if Sean every developed into a Marcus Camby type player (i.e 10-14ppg mostly on put backs/finishes and 8-12 rebs a game with 2-3 blocks a game) then I'd be absolutely STOKED. I'm still supportive of him because I feel he realistically could do that. I'll give him till the end of his 3rd season then start getting annoyed.

Disagree on the Theo Ratliff comment. Ratliff does not have great quickness and mobility the way Williams and Stromile Swift both do.

I wasn't impressed at all by what I saw from Josh Boone, and FRANKly (heh heh heh) I don't understand why so many people here are so excited about him. He doesn't give the Nets the same defensive presence as Williams or Swift.

The really good news is that the Nets got rid of Krstic and Marcus Williams, so hopefully the Nets will be better defensively this season, but if Boone and Yi are dominating the minutes at the expense of Swift and Williams the Nets defense in the paint will be horrible.

Williams might be a very interesting play at the SF position, as would Stromile Swift. Swift is a much better all around offensive player than Williams and has a bit more size defensively, so I don't think Williams should be given the nod over Swift, but Swift will be a free agent after the season so the Nets may not play him.

Having Swift around in practice will give Williams a good role model as far as helping Williams improve his game, because they are physically similar.

Capable starter for an average team, capable backup for a contender....

Comparing Sean to Ratliff is a joke, Sean has the potential to be a far superior player.

^^^ You're correct. I keep trying to say it. If Sean ever gets motivated, he's the Marcus Camby sans the injury problems (I'm knocking on wood)...maybe even a Tyson Chandler who can hit a damn foul shot.

10-15 more pounds of muscle along with a killer instinct will make him become this easy.

Did Williams get any time at SF last season?

Ratliff in his prime was a fantastic player.

That's try but Sean and Theo are different players. Ratliff had no offensive game really. He was good in pick and roll situations, finishing around the basket and defense. In his prime, Boone is most likely to be this type of guy. Not Sean.
