Pargo or Livingston ?
On the rumor mill at si.com
its says the hawks are looking at these two.
i think the season Pargo had made him to expensive for us.
i would like to give livingston a chance, he could be a backup if one of our 20 pg's get hurt
he could play the 2 or 3. At a cheap price whats the worst that could happen ?

Re: Pargo or Livingston ?
Replay the footage of his last knee blowout for an idea of the worst that could happen. Also in spite of his height I've never heard of Livingston playing anything but PG. Multiple reasons: his main asset is his court vision, he lacks the strength necessary to play any other spot, and his shooting is a little too suspect to be a 2 or 3 man. Livingston is a high risk/high reward potential PG, but with the Hawks already having Speedy Claxton with a guaranteed salary it makes me think it would be hard for the Hawks to be the team that takes the chance of Shaun. I mean wouldn't it be like a 75% chance that both would wind up on the shelf while the Hawks are down to 13 roster spots and don't have an active 3rd PG.

Re: Pargo or Livingston ?
I don't think Livingston has a chance this year to make a roster. Teams just aren't going to wait for his knee to improve and pay him at the same time. As Evil said, we already have Speedy and his knee issues.
I do like the thought of Pargo coming here to improve the bench, but would he come here knowing he has Bibby, Law, Speedy, and sometimes Evans to take the minutes in the backcourt?
I saw a rumor where a Russia was offering $2M/year. Can't we do that here in Atlanta? How much do we really have to offer? We could use one more vet on this roster to provide some depth. Chances are we won't be injury free so we need someone to step in and lift this team. Pargo has good experience as a role player and might give us an opportunity to offer Bibby out there.

If the Russian offer is $2M NET, then ATL could not have enough to offer.
We have $3M max to spend on a first year contract (it could be lesser, depending on Smith contract structure).

Livingston without any doubt. You cannot pass on a talent like that. Sure he is injury prone but as you have said the high risk has high reward. If healthy he could make us contenders, Pargo just can't, for just 2M$ it deserves to take the risk. Don't mind to have Claxton also, he is not going to play anymore and we are thin at PG.

Re: Pargo or Livingston ?
My point was when they both get injured you are thin elsewhere cause you carried 4 PGs and you still are thin at PG because 2 of them are injured. Sure it could work out but some people don't have the physical strength to withstand the rigors of pro sports no matter how much skill they have. Also after how horrific the knee injury was for Livingston, I'm not sure how much he could contribute this year anyway. He'd be a multiple year investment in the future, which might not be a bad thing but still leaves the team thin at multiple positions this year.

If they got close to the same price I think staying in the league would be in Pargo's best interest. I think the crowded back court might be a bigger issue for him to not be interested.

Re: Pargo or Livingston ?
Livingston I'd take a look at, but only if it was for very cheap. And considering he turned down a guaranteed offer from LAC, I doubt he's looking for a minimum deal right now. I don't think he'd be worth it at that price considering the shape his knee must be in.
I'd go with Pargo depending on what the $$$ looks like. He's a dangerous shooter that can man the 1 or 2 spot. I wanted him here last season, he's a perfect fit. I still suspect he ends up with the Spurs, it's gotta be hard to turn that team down.

Re: Pargo or Livingston ?
Pargo!! No doubter about this! Pargo would add great 3 pt shooting which we need badly, he alone would makeup for Jchillz depature IMO..and Livingston has way too many question marks surrounding him, and even when he was healthy with the Clippers he did not look all that impressive. Pargo would be our best 3pt shooter, our best player off the bench..and we would have two very reliable players off the bench with him and Evans. I would be estatic if we signed Pargo, but I see him going to the Spurs.

I was also thinking about it. With an offer of 3M, the difference should not be big enough for him going to Europe.

Of these two I am on the Pargo side... he will be healthy and he can play... Livingston? He might be healthy, and I've heard he has the potential to be good. For a backup like this I'll take the healthy guy who can help now.

Re: Pargo or Livingston ?
Livingston should have more potential, being an athletic 6'7'' PG, but he is not able to shoot the way ATL need (bad FT%, shot only 26 3s in 3 years...), so after this injury, I have doubt he will be athletic like he was. Nothing that would help ATL.

Re: Pargo or Livingston ?
If I were me I'd sign Livingston, knowing he won't give much this yr,at the end of the yr at best, but as a long term investment. I'd use him as a Childress replacement,as a 2/3 who would pass the ball and defend.(The Clips would often have him defend SG/SFs and would play him w/Cassell.)
The player developement director at IMG wrote about Livingston stating he was twice as strong as he was before the injury and players who successfully come back from such serious injuries tend to become workout junkies. There would be concern about lateral quickness-in other words could he guard PGs. But w/Livingston as a backup 2/3 the team could get by w/a backup PG who is more a scorer than a playmaker-of which there are a ton in the NBA.

I'm a bigger fan of Livingston, but would prefer Pargo, and it's the smart move considering we don't need anymore injury risk on the team. I doubt Livingston will be ready to go when the regular season starts.

I'm assuming that the Flip Murray signing means that both these guys are off the possible list.

Except if Gardner and/or Hunter don't make the team, a back court spot could be free.
And if they have unguaranteed contracts, ATL can sign other guy to unguaranteed to, even exceeding the tax threshold this summer as long as they cut one later.

Re: Pargo or Livingston ?
It appears ATL did not have the money to match the Russia offer on Pargo.
We had 3M max, and Pargo signed for $3.5M NET (after all taxes) with Dynamo Moscow.

I thought any thought of Pargo was ended when they signed Flip Murray.
