Well he has at least 13 and a half months for that, so he better be extremely "clutch" when the time comes.

Jitpal wrote:I'm really sick of this whole Arod isn't clutch nonsense. Clutch, as most people think of it, is a figment of everyone's imagination. It doesn't matter if you score the run in the 1st inning or in the 9th inning. It still only counts as one run. I look at clutch as more of a matter of games we have to win and against teams we have to beat. So let's take a look closer shall we.
Anaheim: .320/1.233
Boston: .348/.988
Minnesota: .390/1.213
Tampa Bay: .344/.895
So against teams that we need to beat to secure a wild card or the division and the best team in baseball he has great numbers. Yeah, he really sucks when it counts. When it is do or die time in extra innings he has a ridiculous 2.000 OPS. Yeah, that's right 2.000 OPS. Look no one is going to make excuses that he isn't hitting well with RISP, but neither is the rest of the team. It's a team wide epidemic, not Arod's fault. It's a been a huge affliction this entire year. I've seen countless times Abreu and Giambi come up, sandwiching Arod and also strike out or hit weak ground balls. How many times has Giambi hit into the shift with men on base, instead of just tapping it towards a completely empty left-infield.

Hey since you like those other numbers, here are Arod and Jeter compared in various situations throughout their careers.
Arod | Jeter
RISP: .302/.956 | .311/.837
Bases Loaded: .344/1.115 | .357/.857
Men on 2nd and 3rd: .315/.956 | .311/.815
Close and Late: .278/.907 | .289/.808
Very comparable number, maybe a slight edge to Arod. Jeter hits a little better but Arod draws more walks and hits for more power. The point of this isn't to say Jeter is better than Arod or Arod is better than Jeter. The point is to show that Arod isn't "unclutch" or anything, he is very comparable to Jeter who many consider one of the better clutch players. -Jitpal

I don't want to beat up on A-rod, but it sure does seem that he comes up with runners on base and in scoring position and becomes an automatic double play or strikeout.. maybe he puts up good numbers, but they need to keep a stat on quality contact.... with man on first and second or first and third with less than two outs, I would settle for a fly ball, but with A-rod he seems to do the worst.. a double play or a KO...

as far as giambi and abreu. They are just one dimensional now. I would rather jettison those two, move nady up into the 5th spot and get a good all around hitter to bat third... Holliday would be great to fill that void... Michael young, heck even manny.. LOL

In 09? We won't make the playoffs giving this kind of effort on a daily basis.

I really hate that you said this, but we are done...

We can only hope the Rays' injuries catch up to them and the Sox fall off because of losing Manny and some internal conflicts.
