Ryan Lochte AND Usain Bolt: Powered by Mickey-Ds

Post#1 » by Rocky5000 » Fri Aug 15, 2008 10:50 pm

BEIJING – Ryan Lochte is giving chase to Michael Phelps in the water and Morgan Spurlock out of it. On Friday, after medaling in two individual events in less than 30 minutes, Lochte said the food he used as fuel is McDonald’s.

“Nutrition’s probably the last thing I worry about,” Lochte said. “It’s probably my downfall. I’ve been eating McDonald’s almost every meal here.”

Spurlock, an independent filmmaker, ate every meal at McDonald’s for 30 days for a 2004 documentary and gained 24 pounds. The 23-year-old Lochte has been dining at the fast-food haven, an Olympics sponsor, for 11 days and has gained four medals – two golds and two bronzes.

These swimmers don't seem to care what they eat at all. Phelps doesn't eat every meal at McDonalds, but he doesn't watch calories or fat, and pretty much eats as much as he can.

---------Update
Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt prepared for the men's 100-meter final by waking up about 11 a.m. He watched TV for a while in his room at the Athletes' Village, then went downstairs and ate some chicken nuggets at McDonald's. He returned to his room, took a three-hour nap, woke up and ate some more chicken nuggets.

Haha, Bolt seems so nonchalant about the Olympics. He slept most of the day, and woke up only to eat Chicken McNuggets. But that makes 2 Olympic athletes now powered by McDonalds. Maybe it's the new breakfast of champions?

When you burn 4000+ calories a day it's tough to even get enough calories in to not burn up your muscle. So they don't really need to worry about things like fat/nutrition as much.

After hearing the amount of food Phelps eats during the day...I wonder how much time does he spend in the bathroom?

He says all he does is eat, swim and sleep. I'm pretty sure there is at least one more thing lol

from new york times:

phelps eats 3 fried eggs; a sandwich with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and onions; a bowl of cereal; an omelet made with 5 eggs; 3 slices of french toast; 3 pancakes and 2 cups of coffee for breakfast.

a bowl of pasta, ham&cheese sandwich and energy drink for lunch.

a bowl of pasta and awhole pizza for dinner.

I am pretty sure you would lose several pounds after swimming like 3 miles like Phelps does with regularity.

Well I wouldn't recommend it to a overweight inactive person to all of a sudden swim 3 miles. I am a reasonably athletic person and I am sure I would puke my guts out after a mile and half and lose 6 lbs in the process.

A mile isn't all that difficult to swim (32 laps/ 64 lengths), but swimming laps for 5 hours solid? That's insane!

I updated the post, Bolt's record was powered exclusively by deep-fried salt-filled recombined chicken parts.

Being as I can't swim, I would say that is true, but the fact that I'm 230 lbs. and sweat while opening a box of Cheez-its just adds to the fire.

nonsense, I say.

there's more to nutrition than body fat, yikes. recovery (cellular stuff), minimziing lactic acid build-up, protein, etc.

^^Why would the writer lie about something like this? Its not like the lack of this info would bring his career to a standstill or make him less popular. He's achieved enough in his career for the public to be amazed. Sensationalizing stories/tall tales isn't going to benefit him that much.

I am a sprinter and yes, we can eat whatever we want. We can't eat super duper clean. We burn so much calories doing intervals around the track over and over that we can eat anything. Calories are calories for us. It's a sin to eat clean.

Man, that's shocking. I train a fair amount, and almost never indulge in empty calories - even when I'm clearing 4500 a day. It's **** misery. All this sacrifice is unnecessary? Uyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

Here's a typical intensive tempo day for me at the track, then weights later:

8x200, with 2-3 mins rest

Weights, total body workout: Bench Press, Squat, Deadlift, Military Press, Curls all of which 4 sets of 6
