Yanks vs. Royals series

Post#1 » by cmaff051 » Sat Aug 16, 2008 2:43 am

If the Yankees lose today, you can forget about the playoffs.

The Yankees need to sweep these kind of series against meager competition because they have a tough schedule ahead of them.

You can't go break even against the drek of the league and expect to make the playoffs.

..The last thing i want to do is knock Mo, but seriously...can he stop giving up the lead runs in the 9th inning all the damn time? I know it's no always his fault, but cmon, it has to stop..

He has a 1.60 ERA!!!

He is going to give up runs sometimes.

He is having the best year of his career.

The Michael Kays of the world really need to shut up.

Yes, i know..but it still doesn't change the fact that he has given up the lead run in the 9th inning quite often these past few weeks. That's the only negative thing ill say about mo before i get blasted.

Another loss..

Put a fork in us - we're done.

And the reason for our failures can go solely on our underperforming lineup.

Not Mariano Rivera.

Would you rather him give up runs in save situations instead?

He's going to give up runs at times, he is not perfect!

He has a 1.60 ERA... he's the best reliever in baseball this year... what more do you want? :banghead:

This loss is on two people. Girardi and Giambi. Giambi for leaving 7 men on base. Girardi for constantly putting him into the 5 spot even though he is hitting .212 with RISP. Girardi needs to reorder the lineup.

It needs to be:
Damon
Jeter
Cano
Arod
Abreu
Nady
Giambi
Molina/IRod
Gardner

giambi and abreu are just horrible guys to surround A-rod with. Giambi is just a one dimensional hitter nowadays and Abreu has lost his power. I said this team was dead a week ago. It should not have taken this loss to come to terms with that.....

I still don't understand the Abreu hate here. Why is he terrible to have in front of ARod? He has a nice OBP which is not at all what we need right? He is one of the very few hitters we have who is selective and will take pitches to draw a walk and get on base. Who wants men on base in front of ARod? Abreu doesn't hit HRs anymore like a mormal number three hitter but he is having a very good year offensively.

As far as Rivera goes, I love him and he has been a great reliever, but he hasn't been great this year no matter his ERA. I would much rather him give up a run in 5-6 save situations then in tie games everytime he pitches. You give up a run in a save situation you still have a better then 50% chance to win. What are the chances we have to win when you are losing after he gives up a run in the top of the ninth in a tie game? 5%?
All-Time Draft

PG- Oscar Robertson/Bob Cousy
SG- Earl Monroe/James Harden/Dana Barros
SF- Billy Cunningham/Michael Finley/Chet Walker
PF- Elvin Hayes/Dolph Schayes/Tom Chambers/Danny Manning
C- Walt Bellamy/Neil Johnston/Darryl Dawkins

I hate having a 3rd hitter with as much pop in his bat as jeter. Yeah he takes a lot of pitches but he also strikes out A LOT, especially in key situations. How many times have we seen men on base with no outs only for him to strike out.

He also has one of the lowest IQ's on our team.

The game vs anaheim where he tried to advance to 3rd even though the ball was hit to left field and wasn't even hit pretty that hard preventing jeter from actually scoring.

Game vs Twins where with 2 outs he was caught stealing 2nd with giambi AB. We were losing by 2 and even if abreu HAD made it it wouldn't have helped us much, what we needed was giambi to hit a bomb that AB.

He's also our worst defensive OF with limited range.

Get rid of his ass.

nady bounces into a DP.. wow.. just no luck.. But again, this team has been trash when it came to situational hitting the past few years. It is cocky for NY management to think that we can come into another season after barely getting by the past two years and not revamp this lineup. It is cocky and stupid and we are paying the price.. we are letting the royals bury us for good and rip us a new one.. I don't want to hear anything about pitching. Everyone has overachieved with the exceptionof the young pitchers and that can be expected. Petitte to some degree, mussina for sure and Ponson has been nothing short of excellent, especially when you consider most thought about sidney ponson.. our hitting has been horrible, just horrible and honestly, If this same lineup comes back next year. I won't watch... Jeter, posada, A-rod, Nady , and maybe damon. after that, every spot should be upgraded, or infused with real prospects..... This has been very dissapointing and unexcuseable in every sense...
