You do realize that with the exception of Ellis none of those guys are in the first year of their contract (and generally speaking contracts are constructed so they increase rather than decrease over length)?

i could see him getting the largest contract in european history, hes a lights out shooter most of the time, and would be a very very effective player overseas. the type of game over there suits him perfectly so i could easily see him taking a large overseas offer for 2 years.

Absolutely, but I hope you in turn realize that those contracts are structured with increases because the cap also tends to increase every season. A contract that averaged $11 mil a season could be like Ellis' where it was a flat $11 mil or it could be closer to Deng's that starts at around $9 mil a season. It wouldn't exactly be a great argument to suggest that Gordon should sign the same contract as a guy who signed one when the cap was so much lower. For comparison's sake, the salary cap in 03-04 was $43.8 mil and for this upcoming season it will be about $58.7 mil. Using lux tax lines the difference is just as noticeable as this season teams can spend $71.15 mil without paying tax while in 03-04 they could only spend $52.9 mil before paying tax.

Bye-bye Ben, you can chuck to your heart's delight overseas.

Agree 100percent.
Chicago fans should feel lucky. They offered to overpay him, and he turned it down and acts insulted by it. Its a joke. They should let him go to europe, and hold his rights.

He said per year, not this year.

That Gordon to Dallas idea is actually really interesting, but I wouldn't do it as Chicago. No ned to pay Terry that money.

Gordon to Portland for spare parts? Sounds good to me.

I want him in Toronto, but most Raptors fans will pillory me for that.

Portland doesn't really need him with Bayless there.

I was thinking that as I was posted, but Gordon is way better right now and is still young. Besides, Bayless/Gordon could manage as a backcourt pairing for the ~12MPG Roy isn't on the court.

Rooster I agree with Sonny Portland doesn't need him.Portland has a capspace plan and bringing in Gordon would play havok with that.furthermore right now Portlands guard rotation looks like this

SG Roy,Rudy Fernandez,Bayless,Martell Webster

PG Blake,Bayless,Roy,Sergio.

Yeah, I don't think Portland is his best fit. After all his talk Ben really needs to go to Europe. I just can't see any NBA team paying him $10+ million.

Ben Gordon needs to take a 2 year deal from the Bulls. Something along the lines of 2/22. I dont think thats a bad deal for him or the Bulls. It keeps him from playing on the QO which would suck for the Bulls since he would be more than likely playing for himself and stats. If he is even considering playing overseas for 2 years than this is more than a viable option.

If he were to take a 2/22 deal from the Bulls he would become an Un-restricted Free Agent in 2010. Thats the same time LeBron, Wade, Bosh are gonna be UFA's as well. There will be more teams with money to spend than good players available. Now Im not saying he'd get a crazy deal then either, but at least he'd have more available options than he does now.

(a) Why would Gordon want to compete with all those top level free agents when he could get a whole lot more security right now?

(b) Isn't part of the reason for the Bulls' present cheapness their desire to stay under the lux tax and wouldn't Gordon at such a high salary right away put them into the tax? Wouldn't they then be better off paying him less now but more over the course of his contract so they actually paid less tax?

I know what you're trying to do by turning him into a more valuable trade commodity for the Bulls as well as allowing the team's fans to still dream about a big 2010 free agency splash that could work out about the same way as their TMac/Duncan/Antonio Davis splash did but there is no reason for Gordon to help the Bulls like that and the Bulls would be paying more tax that way.

The Bulls offered him 6/59 this offseason. Pretty much the max we could give without going over the tax. He's acting like he's worth more then Deng, he wants at least Deng money, and that's less then what he wanted before.

He is acting like a total idiot. No NBA team would offer him more then 6/59.

I was wondering, are their any teams that have been rumored to field offers for Gordon yet?

Agreed a thousand times. He's a good player, but he is getting pretty arrogant in this whole contract situation.

6/59 - Perform, Make Money On Ads etc.
6/80 - Never will happen, so goes to Europe, makes very little money on ads.

Truth is, he'd make more in the US, Childress has no chance of making that much money on advertisements here, Gordon has plenty options here. The best offer is on the table, he is just being a fool until October.
