Hoopsworld graded the magic

Post#1 » by cedric76 » Sat Aug 16, 2008 4:10 pm

Total Offseason Grade: B+

The Magic didn't do a lot this summer, but they didn't need to – and the additions they made seem to fit the needs they had. Will it be enough to keep up with the changes made in Toronto, Philadelphia and Cleveland? And if it is, is it enough to challenge the likes of Detroit and Boston? Time will tell, but it's quite obvious they are doing their part to make sure the East stays much improved.

Sounds about right to me. If we get some young talent at PG without giving up to much, I'd upgrade to a A-.

No complaints about anything they said or the grade. Seems about right.

I agree. Not a spectacular offseason, but definitely solid.

Pietrus is still a bit of a risk IMO, but considering the money he signed for, I think he'll be worth it. If he doesn't improve, he's a tad pricey maybe, but he has a lot of room to grow as well. If he improves a lot, he's a steal. Definitely worth the shot.

Then Anthony Johnson; I loved that signing. I'd much rather have him come off the bench behind Jameer than Arroyo, I can tell you that. We can use his defense and veteran presence.

Courtney Lee seems like a really nice prospect too, although at this point there just doesn't seem to be a whole lot of room for him. I think it'll be a while before we really get to see what we have in this guy. Hopefully he'll learn a lot in practice and/or go to the NBDL for a while to show what he's got.

Re-signing Foyle... OK sure, why not. Wasn't necessary IMO, but we need every body we can get in our frontcourt. If he'd just stick to playing defense and rebounding instead of wanting to become a total package he'd be a lot better IMO.

I was mildly hoping to see a Hedo trade for a skilled, high post PF/C to play next to Dwight, but knew it was a longshot. There's still time offcourse, but I'm not counting on it. Next year will be interesting for Hedo; was last years success a one day fly, or is he really an (borderline) All-Star? Maybe an even bigger question; is he worth All-Star type money, and can he get that type of money? It'd suck to lose Hedo next year for Nothing, I can tell you that...

I'm definitely happy keeping this core together for another year though. There's always time to pull some triggers if this core doesn't work out, unless Hedo leaves us for nothing signing a deal the Magic can't match due to Rashard's contract and the luxury tax.

On the Court Lee thing about not having room at this point, thats a valid point because we have Pietrus, Bogans and JJ at SG. I do expect at some point in the season, maybe even before the season starts, i expect Otis to ship out Bogans and/or JJ.

On Foyle, like you said if he would concentrate on doing what he does best, play defense, clog the lane and rebound then he would me more effective but when he tries to post up and call for the ball and act like he is a scoring option it sets the team back. Its one thing Dwight getting frustrated for not getting the ball, but freaking Foyle? You got to know your limitations and Foyle's limitations on offense are laughable. Reminds me of when Johnny Davis told Pat Garrity to be more than just a shooter lol.

I have a feeling that CLee is going to play more minutes than we think. Last year, our bench had trouble scoring the ball, especially when Dwight went out of the game. Lee has the ability to score and create his own shot. I think he's going to be a key guy off the bench. Bogans or JJ will likely go before the season starts. If it's JJ, I think Bogans could move to SF and have Lee play in the backcourt with AJ. The Magic need scoring threats off the bench.

I think a lot of people were surprised to see Foyle come back, but I think he only got $800,000 for a year. For the price, it isnt so bad. We can always use him if Gortat, Battie, or Cook goes down. He could be riding the bench next year.

The minutes are there, we lost 3 rotation players this summer in the backcourt, we brought in 3 backcourt players.

Out: Evans
In: Pietrus

Out: Arroyo
In: Johnson

Out: Dooling
In: Lee

I'll give my grade in 2010.

Thats a good grade, not too harsh but not the usual hatorade that is spewed at us. I would really like to see us get another big man and then I would be stoked. Either way, i'm hyped for Magic basketball!!!!

With nothing much you could do, the team did have a pretty nice offseason of how much they could work with.

Excuse me isn't this the same website that y'all trashed and said didn't know anything about basketball. I do remember all of the tirades about HoopsWorld, this is the same HoopsWorld that you are now slobbering all over.
So which is it a trash site that knows nothing about basketball or is it the best website in the world???

Huh? :-?

No wait...

Nope, actualy; huh? :eek1:

Where do you see 'slobbering all over' this article, let alone someone calling it the best website in the world? I just don't see it.

Besides, these responses are about this article, not about this website. It's very possible people think a single article is decent, but the website it's posted on in general isn't (although that obviously wasn't being discussed before your post ).
