Is Chris Bosh reaching superstar status?

Post#1 » by Kosta » Sat Aug 16, 2008 9:59 pm

Seems like the American media is really taken a liking to him with these Olympics, probably also the fact that he's always open to the them and the fans, with interviews, blogs, videos, etc. But his game is also speaking volumes for the U.S team, he's probably been one of the top players outside of Wade and James for the team. Most notably his defense has really been a huge plus for the team.

If Bosh can take this into the NBA season and improve on his overall game (especially defense) is he a superstar in your mind? Or would you even consider this his coming out party?

Everybody in Toronto knows he's under appreciated and have come to understand why (playing in Canada) but it's nice to see that he's getting the recognition now like some of his other peers from the 2003 draft.

I wouldn't say superstar, because I think there's only about 5-6 players in the league that are truely superstars (LeBron, Kobe, Wade, KG, Duncan, Paul) But, i'd say he's underappreciated by many fans because his teams been weak in the past. He is a perennial all-star.

Paul a superstar already?

Then Starbury should be in your list too.

But seriously, Chris Bosh has always been good but playing outside the country doesn't really benefit him nicely. During the playoffs, I wanted to watch the Toronto games, and the majority of them weren't even broadcast.

Bosh is a good player but superstar? The average basketball fan probably doesn't know who Bosh is and from watching him play, he's just not dominant enough yet. He's a legit all-star in the east but he has a ways to go before being put in the same category as other forwards such as Duncan, KG, Dirk, LeBron.

In my opinion, superstar status is reached when a player carries his team in the playoffs to the later rounds or if a player carries a talentless team to the playoffs year after year (note the "talentless").

So IMO, players like Melo and Bosh have not reached superstar status yet. With the acquisition of JO though, maybe Bosh has a chance to go far in the playoffs and reach that status next season.

Chris Paul has definitely reached superstar status around the league and with the media.

Nope, not yet...his time will come.

Long Wang will have a great season and if he plays his cards right we'll get out of the first round.

I think there are only 5 superstars in the league, kobe, lebron, duncan, paul, and wade.

bosh has a ways to go, and JO will do nothing to help his case.

If he is able to impose as a strong defensive presence on the court like KG, and develop a crafty post game, then he will be amongst the elite bigs.

He's great already, I hope he can keep improving and he definitely has room to do so - he's still only 24 years old.

Not yet, but if he and Melo can carry over this intensity and swagger into the NBA season, then they will move firmly into the top 10, like the 6-7-8 range.

Star, yeah.

But, superstar?

He's going to have to raise his game even more than he's ever before, and then pick it up in the playoffs even more.

Not right now, not at all....

One breakout game in olympics doesn't = superstar. He has been really solid throughout them though, so like everybody else says.. if it translates into better defense and wins in the NBA then of course.

agree with my man Flash..

superstars are made in the playoffs..Kobe? 3 titles and 2 extra finals appearances..Lebron? led a team to the finals and has pushed better teams to game 7's..Wade? led a team to a title..TD? led a team to 4 titles..KG? just led a team to a title..

Chris Paul just took the Spurs to 7 games in his 1st playoffs..

Bosh needs to make the 2nd round first, and then needs to elevate his game to a new level..something he hasn't been able to do yet..

He's got a great offensive game and his defense is underrated. Bosh doesn't scream and bang his chest all the time so people assume he's soft but he's a tough player. Since his 2nd year in the league he has been " the man" in Toronto and has led his team to the playoffs twice with an average team at best.

Just for comparison sake in 07/08:

Dirk : 23.6 ppg, 8.6 rpg, 3.5 apg, 0.7 spg, 0.9 bgp, 47.9 fg%, 87.9 ft%

Bosh : 22.3 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 2.6 apg, 0.9 spg, 1bpg, 49.4 fg%, 84.4 ft%

Dirk has more range and he's done more in his career but Bosh is only 24. He's not a superstar yet but he will get there.

Yes, this is something I will agree on. The playoffs is where the the true stars are born, Bosh needs to lead the Raptors deep into the playoffs while dominating throughout. But this Olympic showing is raising his rep worldwide and getting his name out there to the casual NBA fan, So in that regard his status is growing, which is very important for him going into next season as his popularity is increasing, more is expected from him, he'll need to take it to the next level if he truly is to enter the elite of the NBA. As NO-KG also said, if Bosh can take this intensity, swagger, momentum and drive and carry it onto this upcoming season, this could really be his coming out party.

Star? Yes, he has been for a while IMO. Superstar? No, but he is in the high end of stars, borderline top 10 in the NBA. Great player.

Loving what Bosh is doing in the Olympics but that doesn't mean he is going to take it to the next level in the NBA.

Saying that I like what Toronto has put together around him, I can see the Raptors in the ECF's if they don't run into Boston before then.....
I'm so tired of the typical......

we dont get to see him much..but he has shown that hes better defensively than people assume, hes gonna be very good next to J Oneal....

But theres only like 5-6 superstars...and i would rank Duncan, Garnett, Howard, Amare, Dirk ahead of him..and thats just big men..so to me, hes not close yet.

Bosh is not a superstar. If his Olympic performance screams anything it's perfect second banana.

He has a superstar personality, but in order to be a complete one he has to accomplish some mind blowing sh*t in the league first
