Obviously, I'm being a bit facetious with that comment, but I don't think I can appropriately underscore how much more prestigious track events--and especially the men's 100 m--are than swimming. And I don't mean to disparage swimming, because I think they're one of the highlights of the Olympics as well.

I will be very surprised if someone doesn't break Bolt's record in my lifetime, possibly even Bolt himself again. If Phelps has another big Olympics then I would guess he will set records that will never break in my lifetime, and he may have already done enough so in this one to do so.

Unless Bolt medals in a few more events and repeats next Olypmics, then long term, he won't have all that much lasting impact at the Olympics when someone comes around and breaks his record.

Oh trust me, as soon as they come up with a new swim suit and better designed pools, Phelp's record will be broken.

You do realize all of Phelps competition swam in the same pool and wore the same swimwear?

He said those records are not likely to be broken in his life time. Unless he's in his 80's, than he will almost surely see Phelp's records be broken.

Swimming is heavily influenced by technology. A better pool and better swimsuit = faster times

I don't think that's what he meant, but whatever.

I thought he was talking about Phelps' 8 golds but if he's talking about Phelps' world records he set this week then yes they will most likely be broken in the near future.

I think Bolt still has the 200m and 4x100m relay so we haven't seen the end of him just yet.

PHELPS vs. BOLT

PHELPS
wore the same suit as everyone else
struggled to win @ his hardest in his last race
had plenty of experience going in
did NOT DO THE ROBOT / JOKE AROUND

BOLT
left shoelace was untied... WTF? thats like Phelps winning with half his costume on
JOGGED his way through the qualifying heats, and JOGGED his way to the WR while looking back, pumping his chest and joking around
DID THE FLIPPIN ROBOT IN THE WARMUP vs. everyone else who was all serious and focused
WORE A BAGGY, SWAGGER NBA LIKE JERSEY unlike ANYONE ELSE who wore the tight crap that maximizes wind resistance b/s.

Phelps... sorry you've been outclassed. End of story. Bolt doesn't need "RAP" music to pump himself up.... nah.... he slaps on a XL shirt, doesnt tuck it in... forgets to tie his shoe and smiles back at his competition while they are busting their ARSES off.

Bolt > Phelps because Phelps listens to rap music and does not joke around.

wtf, are u **** serious? You **** kdding me? Obviously Phelps. Bolt is a runner who won a couple races. Phelps won 8 golds and has a total of 14 gold medals. The most, may I repeat, THE MOST ever by a single Olympian. I can't believe this is even questioned.

Thats the way he preferred it though...I don't think Usain Bolt meant for his shoelace to come undone...

A better comparison would be Phelps swimming with his goggles coming undone. But I have to give it to Phelps as well though, he did finish one race with a pair of leaky goggles. Thats pretty impressive.

Even still, I believe Bolts performance was unprecedented.
