Even Mr. Bonnell, a man with whom I often disagree, understands that this team as currently constituted will not be a Playoff team. We need to improve at the PF position, or this team is Lottery bound once again. I hate to have to agree with Bonnell, but this time he's right.

Re: Even Bonnell Knows We Need More
E4, you're one of the posters here advocating just sitting tight and seeing what May or Davidson can do. With all due respect, I think most observers (even Bonnell) agree that won't do.
By the way, Josh Powell got a 2 year deal from the Lakers. Looks like someone valued his service more than you or perhaps the Bobcats.
I'm curious to know if ANYONE from the Bobcats will ever speak to the media. Notice how executives and coaches from other teams discuss needs or possibilities, or even where they are with their team. We get nothing except the jabber Higgins spoke during the Okafor press conference. Seems an odd way for a struggling team needing to relate to their fans to behave.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: Even Bonnell Knows We Need More
To clarify....
1. I think May and Davidson are better than or equal too what is readily available on the free agent Market. (Not including Brandon Bass and Carl Landry i guess)
2. I do not think we are now "set" at the 4, we badly need a new one.
That said....
3. May/Davidson/Nazr is better than making a bad trade, giving up a better player for a worse player.
4. May/Davidson/Nazr is better than breaking the bank to sign a fringe/backup player. If you think not having a PF is bad, try not having a PF and salary cap hell.
5. If no trade comes along that improves our team by the trade deadline then we shouldn't make a trade. If that means playing 10-15 games(or more) with May/Davidson/Nazr, so be it.
Also...
6. I have nothing against Josh Powell, he's a decent NBA player. I wouldn't have been horribly offended if the B-cats had signed him. But unless he improves dramatically he's not a guy that will play 35min a game on a good team. I think that he will end up playing, maybe, 10 min a game and being a useful but not great player for the Lakers.
Also....
7. Rick Bonell is a hack... He is the mayor of hacktown... He is the conductor of the Hack-train...If hack were people, he'd be China
I don't think anybody disagreed, I just wanted to reiterate.
(tip-o-the-hat to city slickers, btw)

I expect the Bobcats to be fighting for that #8 seed. LB is a huge upgrade at coach worth more than just 5 games better. They are a pretty solid team at every position except for PF.
much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

Cool, that means this will be the first year we make the playoffs!

Nice post.
I wanted to pick up Powell, but let's not elevate this to where some have taken the Weaver/Shannon Brown move. 12-15 postion players on our roster aren't going to make that much of a difference.

Bonnell never does much of anything in relation to the Bobcats during the summer except in SL (where he does do pretty well). Nothing on the players, nothing with the coach and nothing with management. Pitiful.

Re: Even Bonnell Knows We Need More
E4,
Kudos on the fine post. Your writing was crisp and clear and appreciated.
While I disagree on the potential for a trade or the impact a decent FA PF could have, I do agree that a bad trade is not in the best interest of anyone. Also, there is no free agent out there that would cause this team to break the bank or create salary cap issues. Having said that, the biggest gamble using our MLE might come with a player such as Landry, where it would take the full MLE and multiple years to secure a player that shows starting potential but has yet to take that step. That is why I liked Powell, as his price would have been much lower and contained less risk. That's done, so I'm done on Powell (the board collectively says "THANK YOU").

This reminds me of the time Bonnell said we weren't going to resign Okafor.
