Cubs minor leaguer suspended for drugs

Link
Chicago Cub minor league pitcher Starling Peralta was one of three minor leaguers suspended for 50 games Wednesday after testing positive under baseball's minor league drug program.

Kansas City Royals pitcher Juan Garcia and catcher Juan Fortuna and Peralta all tested positive for a metabolite of Boldenone.

Peralta, a 6-foot-4-inch, 180-pound right-hander from Nagua in the Dominican Republic, was 4-4 with a 6.92 earned run average in 15 games for the Cubs team in the Dominican Summer League.

A total of 26 minor leaguers have received 50-game penalties since July 25, and all but two tested positive in the Dominican and Venezuelan summer leagues. Prior to this year, baseball didn't announce suspensions in those two leagues because of legal issues.

Vitters hit streak at 23. Not sure where he is hitting in the lineup, but I dont like the fact that he isnt producing a lot of rbi's.

Brenley Jr. is raking in Boise. I know this is low A, but I like what Ive seen from him.

Flatherty has done well too.

Navin (Pasadena, CA): Cubs 9th rounder Jay Jackson has 70 strikeouts and 13 walks in 45 innings at 3 levels (the highest being the FSL). What type of prospect is he and how excited should I be?

Kevin Goldstein: In all seriousness, get a little excited. He's showing above average velocity, breaking stuff and command, and people are wondering how he lasted until the 9th round. Total stud? No. But a way better prospect than where he was drafted.

Do you guys think Fuld will get a Sept. Call up? He has torn up AA the second half of the season, just like last year. Or is he just gonna take Pies spot in AAA?

Fuld should go to AAA. Pie needs more major league AB's. He got hot after a bad start to the season.

I'll admit to not liking the Vitters pick initially, but I'm starting to come around.

The dude can freakin rake. Being able to hit that well at such a young age is almost always an indication of big league success. His bat speed and control are among the best in the minors and he just finished his first season. I'm thinking a 3rd base version of Howie Kendrick, with more power but a bit of a drop in average.

A-Ram's contract expires after 2011. He may not need to be re-signed.
