OT:Batten down the hatches!!!

Post#1 » by BassMaster » Mon Aug 18, 2008 8:45 pm

The latest weather center predictions show that the storm may pass over Orlando at some point if that pans out it sounds like all of you in the Orlando area will need to batten down the hatches. The only good news about this storm is that you will get much needed rain.
Praying that all in the storms path get through it will a min of problems. God Bless.

we just got out of a meeting about the storm...im not worried about it to be honest, should be alright...looking at the pressure systems....things could change, but I think we're cool...some big rains and some winds, maybe a few tornadoes...

Sorry some national weatherpersons have mentioned that FL is way below where they are suppose to be when it comes to water.
Opposite problem here wettest summer on record two ways, rain and humility. Averaging 75% daytime and at night 90-100% beyond sticky wouldn't you say.
Still hope that everyone in FL comes out fine from the first storm to hit FL this year and hopefully last.

Well it sounds like you are going to get a lot more rain if the storm follows the predicted course so some flooding. Though I do believe that twisters may be your biggest problem with this storm considering how far this storm extends out from the center. So watch out for flying objects and just stay safe.

Not to worry cougar. This is light weight stuff for us Floridians. been raining all day here in Fort Lauderdale. Not much wind. You got to have more than the occassional cat flying by to get us nervous. Not too much people even getting off work early either. So far a big yawn - usually an excuse for the media to jump up and down in their seat but they aren't even getting flustered either. Tornadoes arethe only real threat now.

Orlando doesn't even have a tropical storm watch at present. It's possible, but the forecast is for showers and maybe some thunderstorms. It's different for our neighbors on the coast. While it's true we have had plenty of rain lately, we still have a rain deficit, and need to fill lakes, ponds and recharge our ground water.

One of the benefits of having the barrage of hurricanes in 2004 is that I don't have many trees left. I have 2 chainsaws, but hardly anything left to use them on. (Ahh, but maybe the maple tree will split)

Plus, I got a new roof after that onslaught. All I gotta do now is bring in the smokers and play dodge ball with the tornadoes.

The rain isn't really significant, except for the older areas with poor drainage.

This this is not gathering any strength and has little no no organization. My grandmothers farts are more menacing than this thing.

The media is making this seem a lot worse than it really is going to be imo. I am not worried much at all and just want it to pass ASAP. No big deal at all.

Water tables are about 40 feet lower than they should be up here in Jax, I hear its up to 60 feet in Orlando. We need all the rain we can get. Otherwise we are going to have to pump the St Johns, and to be honest thats not water you wanna drink.

Another good summer storm.

I was hoping to get off from work and it not be too bad. In any case lets hope those of us who do end up working stay safe and on the road.

Sounds like Fay is already setting off quite a few tornadoes, that's the big worry for us (especially for anyone on the northeast side of the storm).
Knew 5 days ago that it would pull a Charley and it looks like it is (good news for Tarpon Springs). Thankfully, it's no where near as bad as it was in '04.

Funny that the schools just opened today and are closing tomorrow (flashback for me).
Those UCF students who are looking to move in to their dorms again will have to do it earlier between 9 a.m. and noon.

Actually watching a weather channel special now that's showing rough footage from Charley (also spawned a ton of tornadoes). Funny that since Katrina, Florida had zero mention about their 3-hurricane year until these past few days.

I already got water and a few chips in case my power goes out (which it probably will for a bit just as a precaution to transformers).

Good luck to everybody, it's getting blown out of proportion, but you never know what damage this could do.

The Tornados are a worry. If we stay inside otherwise, everyone should be fine.

If we avoid those, were going to be fine and my feeling is the storm will be weaker than what they are saying.

My huge worry is how long the power will be out. It is a pain to have power for even one day and it usually is out 2-3 days when we get a storm.

Stay safe guys!

Also, the south is going to be pissed at us once gas prices go up again as the oil refineries have shut down and sent their workers home.
