Barnes, Amundson, & Dragic...best scenerio?

Post#1 » by TXSun » Tue Aug 19, 2008 3:53 am

I would say so. With our limited cap-space I believe we got a steal in Barnes. As for Amundson, we'll he's there to replace Sean Marks pretty much and seems more athletic and he is younger. Dragic, that's the man we wanted it and we got him. We got a bit younger we these 3 guys so I'm content with that. So overall, this is a best case scenerio offseason considering our limited budget. what do you all think?

-Barnes was a great signing

-Amundson, that was alright but the Suns could have signed a undrafted rookie and gave him the chance, Amundson has been in the league awile now and that's the best he will most likely be.

-Dragic was a good choice, even though it cost the Suns a future second and cash

i agree on Dragic. A little too expensive for an unproven rookie. hopefully it works out.

Dragic will be the most overpaid rookie this season when you add up all the costs and times that by 2 since we're in the luxury tax.

Amundson seems ok. Don't expect much from him, but he's definitely more athletic and will give us more than what Marks has given us the past few seasons.

Barnes was an absolute steal. i never even considered him because he was just too expensive. Whatever he gives will probably be worth close to an MLE, so getting him for a vet min was an excellent move.

^ You can't say he's overpaid because we are over the lux tax. I think this is one of the best scenarios without any trade's taking place, although I wouldve loved to seen us dump Diaw for Webster + Brandon Rush..

I would grade this a B to a B+ offseason at beast though. Lopez is intriguing along with Dragic's potential and the steal in Barnes. We always seem to sign good bigs / SF's, so Im content with Amundson. Our problem may be Dragic and him adjusting to the NBA, but I think we'll be just fine.

^ i would have to agree. This is the best case scenerio without any trades by far. We keep our core together and our 6th & 7th man and we add Barnes and Dragic. This has to be good.

Even if you don't take into account we are in lux tax, if you add up his buyout and the contract we are giving to a 2nd rounder, he's overpaid.

If we didn't have to buy out his contract it wouldn't have been so bad, I wonder if it would have been better to let him stay one more year in Europe?

It probably would have been better, but under the circumstances we needed a backup point this season so we couldn't let him develop more in the Euroleague. Most other teams would have left him to mature before bringing him over. I also had doubts about him making a successful transition from Euroball to NBA, I hope I am wrong.

Barnes is the luck of the draw for Kerr. Amudson or whatever his name is, he will be a towel waiver guy who gets in the game in a blow out and hustles. Fans most likely will fall in love with this kid. Dragic......ehhh, we will see. He could be something good, but all I see is a backup who will try to play D.

I would say, this is our best bench in a long time.

Whats going to be intersting is how DJ and Dragic battle it out in camp. But I think Dragic has the upper hand due to the price and how high Kerr is on him.

Well Barnes will give them toughness. Amundson will mostly be a practice player but practice counts too. Dragic is still an unknown to me. you guys forgot Robin Lopez.

I think the suns need to prove that things have change before I buy into anything they do.

This wasn't best case scenario. Barnes is the only one that we know can contribute right away. If Amundson and Dragic don't break the rotation, then this offseason was all for nothing. Lopez too. He is either going to be the smartest or the dumbest move by Kerr, we banked a lot on him, passing up on Speights and letting go of Skinner.
