How the Suns win this year...

Post#1 » by RisingSuns_22 » Mon Aug 18, 2008 7:25 pm

I am more of an avid reader than someone who post nonsense up everyday but when I have what i think maybe a great idea I like to see what the other people think. My only other post was when I thought the suns should have traded for Pau Gasol before LA got him by giving shawn marion to memphis straight up... I feel like the suns really haven't improved much this offseason, I am not saying its been terrible but I don''t feel like we still have the pieces to contend... That being said Michael Redd's comments got me thinking ("Surprised to still be here"). Why not try to acquire this guy with the two pieces we've been shopping all season? Barbosa and Diaw!!! The contracts work and it seems to make sense... Redd flourished under Porter at Milwaukee, hes on the "Redeem Team" that has focused on defense during and before the Olympics, the guy can shoot. I know hes had a string of injuries and maybe injure pron? But if healthy, which it looks like he is then, I think this guy puts the Suns back on top in the west! This of course would make Raja come off the bench but his ankles I am sure would appreciate that, and it may give us another sixth man of the year... The only problem that we would have is that are power forward spots would be thin! Although Redd contract is expiring soon so it frees up more money later.

Barbs/Diaw for Michael Redd

Nash/Dragic/Strawberry
Redd/Bell/Strawberry
Hill/Barnes/Tucker
Stat/Lopez/Admundson
Shaq/Lopez/Admundson

Let me know what you all think

No. What Redd is is a offensive ball stopper and a chucker. He's used to being "the man" and he fails at it big time. Don't need him. I'd rather keep Barbosa and Diaw.

Barbosa already has better numbers percentage-wise than does Redd and makes far less over the same period.

I don't really see that solving a problem for PHX as we really don't know the type of defense Barbosa could produce if proded by a more defensive minded coach like Porter.

There would have to be another play coming back in that trade so that PHX doesn't have to sign another FA vet. min. scrub. But this trade would already put the Suns deeper into the luxury tax than they already are and any additional player would force the issue.

we´re set, now that we have a back up pg.
although i would love to see another veteran pg on this roster.
sign damon or sam i am. they don´t have to play much but if nash needs rest they could share
time with dragician..
i think the price for redd is too high.

Yes I agree. We don't need Redd, period. We're set. I would also like Sam Cassel signed here, but don't know if we need to do that just yet. I want a deal that gets rid of Diaw first if its even possible at this point. Diaw + Future first for Drew Gooden and Future 2nd ( we have the 2020 first right)?

No thanks. I'd prefer to have two very different player who can contribute in their own way and at the same time add depth to our bench. Redd is a great player and plays good defense, but he's not worth Diaw+Barbosa for his production.

Not really big on that idea. Maybe if they threw in Villanueva

-- I agree about a vet PG; an experienced backup is a must-have and if we can get someone who can school Dragic as part of his gig, even better. We need to take advantage of the experience and smarts our vets have and teach the young 'uns everything they can soak up.

I like the Michael Redd idea except that it doesnt fit well to Suns contract situation. Barnes signed for one year vet minimum and depending on how Strawberry develops this season (I hope he dont volt out to Europe if he pans out), the Suns should or needs to resign these guys. That said, Boris and/or Barbosa will most likely be traded for some expirings at the very least.

Going back to the original trade idea we will be short in 4 position. OKC just waived Donyell Marshall and should be a option for vet min contract (say 2 years). He can be a good back-up in 4 position and can stretch the floor as well. Mashall and Shaq on the floor together for 5-10 minutes should be interesting to see.

Nash / Strawberry / Drajic
Bell / Redd / Tucker
Barnes / Hill / Tucker
Amare / Marshall / Barnes
Shaq / Lopez

*Redd and Hill as off the bench instant offense.
