Is anyone else really tired of Michael Kay?

Yesterday he was going on and on about how Pavano should start instead of Hughes because Pavano once went 18-8 and he claims Hughes struggled his entire major league career. It's astounding to me how he doesn't know the players on games that he has called. Hughes had the great September last year, as well as the near no-hitter and the playoffs.

Then today during the broadcast he was talking about how Cano plays so poorly when they lose. When nearly every player hits better when they win(surprise). Look at this.

I left off a bunch of guys who don't have too many plate appearances. Nearly every hitter hits .100 better in wins instead of losses. Jeter, Giambi and Melky are the only consistent ones but both Melky and Giambi were consistently bad. Betemit is just weird. Granted Cano's split is bigger than the rest but .100 for nearly everyone else. I'm sure Michael Kay will be shocked to know that the pitchers have better ERAs when the team wins. -Jitpal

Kay has been known and has gotten crap from Yankee fans for his hate toward Hughes. It isn't just digs on the broadcast, he has said a lot of negative things about Hughes on his radio show.

As for those splits, its funny because whenever they show stats like those for any player, my first reaction is "Obviously." One would think that when players don't play well, their teams tend to lose more often. It isn't rocket science, but nobody ever accused Kay of being too knowledgeable to begin with.

As much as he annoys me, I really don't mind him for the most part. He kind of brings the fan aspect into it (when he goes nuts or even when he is whining) which can sometimes be refreshing, but for the most part I can do without him.

He's gotten more insufferable since the radio show, no doubt. He feels the need now to use the soapbox of the Yankees booth to pontificate on baseball issues of the day and I absolutely HATE that. The games shouldn't be a vehicle to pass judgment and express opinion on baseball-related news of the day - that's what his other gig is for. A passing remark is one thing, but when he goes ON and ON about the head-first slide or when he openly disagrees with a Girardi call and won't let it go, even when it works out, I just want to throttle him through the TV screen. The Hughes thing is another case in point.

The worst booth matchup is when he's with Leiter; they whine at each other and get into these odd existential conversations that make no sense. It's like listening to those two weird kids in middle school that had no friends but each other making stupid inside jokes and giggling to themselves when other people don't get them, only amplified because I can't tune them out if I want to hear the call. I do like most of the other guys in the booth though, and it could be worse than Kay, but he's definitely gotten worse this year.

Kay is decent, but I think Slamm is right. I despise listening to Kay and Leiter. I really don't think Leiter is good, and Kay isn't good enough to carry him. I don't know if you guys are aware, but Kay is the nephew of Danny Aiello.

Aiello is a life-long Yankee fan and grow up in the Stamford, CT area...close to the Stadium. I know Kay started his career as a journalist in Chicago, but I've always wondered in Aiello somehow had a connection and helped him get the gig.

Nonetheless, there are a LOT worse out there.

Michael Kay has too much power since he has his own radio show on 1050am as well as being a Yankee broadcaster. I think since he is always on we tend to get tired of hearing that same voice all of the time. It may also make him feel that he is a sports expert since he is always on the air.

Michael kay is so so for me... His voice kind of annoys me...
