NBA to allow live streaming of local games

Post#1 » by Magic.City.23. » Wed Aug 20, 2008 8:34 am

[quote]The National Basketball Association plans to break a new barrier for U.S. sports leagues by streaming live games to local markets on the Web.

According to a story published Monday by the Sports Business Journal, the NBA plans to negotiate contracts for its member teams so they can stream live games to targeted local online audiences this fall. Bill Koenig, executive vice president of business affairs, told the industry publication: "We hope to have a model in place this season. Our opening up of the rights will certainly be done."

Thank goodness. I am tired of the BrightHouse/FSN bull. Hopefully they can have it ready for this year and free of charge...... That would be dream come true.

Good news for Brighthouse people.
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

That is good news.

I am surprised by it.

Pretty remarkable. Sure, most of us find links to the games on the internet, but the picture/sound quality isn't always great and there are usually some technical issues throughout the broadcast.

For those of us in the Magic's market, we would be getting consistently quality video without having to chase down links every time there's a game.

This would be great if it actually goes through so we don't have to worry about the dam brighthouse/fsn all over again.

This sounds good.

It was torture last year for BrightHouse people because of the FSN dispute.

This should help things and could possible give the Magic some leverage to broker a deal.

It would also be nice to watch more baseball as FSN offers Rays games and Marlins games plus an option to carry 55 more on Sun Sports that is only available to FSN customers.

I still hope for a deal but this news is a relief.

Will this impact RealGM's policy of allowing links to be posted?

^^^Can't see why it'd be wrong if the NBA is good with it.

And yeah, Bright House can't be happy about this, huge leverage blow.

This is great news for an Orlando fan living in Connecticut and if you pay a small price for an amount of games i would have to consider it but if this is free then

Too true that this is good news!

It also shows how desperate we are not to have the season repeat itself in terms of the
broadcasting shaft that we received last year...

I so hope that a deal is made it's not even funny!

It's just our luck after suffering through years of mediocrity to have two conglomorate corps fighting over not giving us a full season of Magic to watch... :banghead:

If the NBA allows it, just provide a link to their website where the link is.

I'd rather have FSN Florida though. It would be a huge moral booster.

Cathy Weedon (FSN) was quoted in the Sentinel that the NBA must first have agreements in place with local affiliates (FSN) in order to provide free streaming.

In other words, it ain't happening.

Sorry.

It was reported by Jerry Geene, but I couldn't find a link yet.

This would be awesome! I could watch at work, at school, and wherever really. I really hope this happens.

Edited for grammar. Yikes!
