And the USA women relay team lost the baton, too.

Some dropped the baton and some went over the line when they passed the baton.

Watched both the men's and women's, and this sucks for the US. But does anyone know if Bolt is running in the final of the 4x100 relay?
I watched without commentary. CBC should've showed this live and then went back to diving.
Thanks.

What a Weak Finals Tomarrow.... CBC will show the Finals Live Tomarrow
1 Trinidad and Tobago 38.26*
2 Jamaica 38.31* Season's Best
3 Japan 38.52* Season's Best
4 Canada 38.77*
5 Netherlands 38.87* Season's Best
6 Germany 38.93*
7 Brazil 39.01*
8 China 39.13*
My guess it Asfa is the leading leg from Jamacia with Bolt ankoring at the end.
My Soca Warriors will be rougly close, but cant challenge if Jamacia is Clean.
Whats Laughable is who will win Broze

Re: Olympic games thread - General
wow, that was a pretty big choke and disappointment, how can they drop it in the olympics?!?!?!?
carl lewis is commentating for a mexican tv channel and he was real angry, real mad: "this is not a game, this is the olympics, they should fire the coach". strong words.
and i hope bolt runs the relay, he sure has another chance to win another gold medal and maybe another record.

To qualify for this tournament, teams needed to be in the top 16 of the season. The Netherlands were 17th, but got a spot when Australia pulled out iirc. If we win a medal I will probably laugh until I cry.
It's a shame the US are out though, would have been an interesting race against Jamaica.

We'll push the Jamacians just enough for them to go after that World Record.
1) Jamaica
2) Trinidad
3) Japan? Brazil? Canada?

Nice for Hope Solo, I thought the media completely screwed her over because of her comments before.
She was dead on accurate for calling her coach out, and I thought it was ridiculous that we sat there trying to protect the coaches feelings given what a moronic decision he made. I'd have gone off on my coach too if I was dominating the competition and they pulled me in a huge moment to put in someone who barely played and then that person got their ass kicked.

I have to write it here:
Barbora Špotáková won women javelin throw and defeated steiod doped Russian today, which is the 40th anniversary of Soviet invasion and occupation of Czechoslovakia! She was well aware of the date and very emotional during the natinal anthem. These are moments to live for!

I can maybe see the symbolism, but it seems stupid to me. She happened to defeat an athlete who incidentally is Russian--an athlete not involved in the prior actions of their government; an athlete that wasn't even born at the time of the invasion. And an athlete competing for a county whose current government had nothing to do with the invasion.
This victory had zero real meaning other than the fact that an athlete who was incidentally Czech happened to be better than an athlete who was incidentally Russian.
If an athlete is a political and historical representative and symbol of the country they are competing for, then athletes should be compelled to cry when they defeat a German.

If you're not either from Czech Republic or Slovakia, you can't understand this.

I felt bad when I heard that the guy who won Silver in the 200m lost it because some U.S. officials called him out for stepping on the line like Spearman did. I hope some U.S. official doesn't start blaming the batons for messing the mens and women's relay up. Those American men and women have to stop eating Butterfingers.

Actually, quite the contrary.
Not being from either of those two countries allows me to be objective and base my judgement on what is rational, not on any bitter emotion.
The notion of an athlete being the embodiment or personification of the country they are competing on behalf of has always been an ill-conceived and illogical idea. They are athletes first and foremost, and the fact they are from county X is really incidental.
