Rank your top three favorite NBA logos/jerseys

Post#1 » by campybatman » Thu Aug 21, 2008 11:55 pm

For me, I've aways dug Boston's, Portland's and Chicago's primary logo. My favorite jersey is of the Celtics because it's straightforward and leaves out the BS. It's tough to name two others because either I don't like certain colors or dislike the overall color schemes. Makes sense...

I wish the Patriots would go back to their Patriot logo. It reminded me of the Celtics' leprechaun.

Keeping it Simple

There's something to be said about a classic look that never really changes. Four teams in particular have seemed to embrace that concept, the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Portland Trail Blazers and San Antonio Spurs.

Quite literally the gold standard, the Lakers are the only team that doesn't wear white at home (except on Sundays), combining gold with the "forum blue" (aka purple) to create a truly iconic look. The team hasn't changed the overall look of the uniforms for good reason, except for changing the shape of the shoulder straps.

As the team with the most championships in the league, the Boston Celtics have kept as simple as they can when it comes to their jerseys. Some may say it's plain to have an austere "CELTICS" spread across the chest, but there certainly is something charming to the crisp and clean white and green, isn't there? The team has occasionally threw in a shamrock or introduced black here and there, but the old-school staple is still the winning formula.

Could one of the NBA's most fundamental players, Tim Duncan, play in a more fundamentally sound uniform? The Spurs have stuck to the unfussy black and silver combination for years and are one of the few teams still using the tank-top style rather than the broad-shouldered version most teams use now. The logo is simple but unique to the team and it's Texas roots and the team avoids making things busy.

The Portland Trail Blazers have basically maintained the same logo and jersey since their inception in the 1970s, and with good reason. The team's logo is one of the most unique in the league and has a great trivia behind it: the logo is a representation of two basketball teams lined up against each other, five-on-five in opposite colors (there's always red for the Blazers and the other five are either black, silver, or white for the other team). The team has kept the logo and maintained the "blaze" two-toned diagonal on the jersey since winning the championship in 1977.

Celtics old one and nothing beats it. The one with the black is just an abomination.

Blazers home, Bulls home, Cippers alternate (blue with the cursive writing), Bullets old jersey. Spurs have good jersey, too.

I think I speak for many when I say I agree with you.

And I also think the black alternates are garbage...if they are gonna do ANY alternate the ONLY one should be the road jerseys that say "BOSTON' like they did up till the late 1960s...otherwise, leave 'em alone!

I am a big fan of teams going classic & staying classic. . . . I can't stand these teams trying to modern up their logos, mascots, and uniforms. It damn near ALWAYS comes out cheesy. . . Like the Golden State jerseys and that mascot of their's - The lame superhero looking one.

I love the Knicks for keeping classy and not trying to create some lame superhero mascot. . .Well, they probably do have a mascot but I don't think I've ever seen it; which means they're doing something right haha.

Hence, my point of the Patriots returning to their old Patriot logo. However, I can somewhat understand why Kraft and family decided to move on from it since they were beginning a new regime in Foxborough and there might be more negative than positive associated with the Patriot log in terms of the franchise's success or lack there of over the years. I remember that one Super Bowl appearance... But, I believe it was a thrashing.

I think the Celtics have the most consistent jerseys. I really like the retro with the large lettering and the St. Patrick's Day one. The one with the black isn't bad. I like them all.

I just hope The Celtics' marketing division(Assuming they have one, or, whoever would be in charge of this stuff) never decides to turn Lucky into some Edgy comic book looking muscle bound superhero leprechaun squeezing a basketball like it's about to burst haha . . . I can totally see it in my mind and it's just not pretty.

Wait. The Celtics have a real person dressed in Halloween attire it looks like. Does he still qualify as a mascot? I'd always associated those guys or girls who actually don an animal suit or whatever as a real mascot. I think Golden State has a real person too dressed up in just cloths and perhaps a mask or covering.

Whatever. I care more about the product on the floor and even less about the mascot and dancers. What's more important is the game and its integrity.

Washington Bullets, all the way baby!

Worst jerseys? Houston Rockets during the Barkley years. Just hideous. Magic jerseys have been pretty fugly too. However, I did/do have a soft spot for the goofy Hornets jerseys, especially back in the Gran-ma-ma days. I had a Hornets Starter jacket back in the day and rocked that all the time.

I remember Hornets merchandise was all the rage circa '93 and '94...it seemed like everyone had some apparell of some kind. I had a nice Starter windbreaker jacket that's probably gathering dust right now...

I also liked the Hornets jerseys back then, since they were the first to implement the whole "pin-stripes" idea (every other team that followed suit, from the Magic to Rockets to Pacers, looked terrible).

I've always loved the old-school Celtics jerseys with "Boston" on the front, and thought they looked great as "retro" jerseys last season.

And call me crazy, but I actually like the Knicks "Nats" jerseys with the orange checkers on blue jerseys. They just have that authentic vintage quality to them.

For logos, the Celtics will always be tops since Red's younger brother Zangfeld created it (I think that's cool as hell and a nifty trivia tidbit to boot). I also like the Timberwolves' original logo and the Pacers "hand and ball making a 'P'" for cheesiness.

Celtics got to be number one. As for other teams I like the black Miami Heat jersey as well as the Kings black jersey's from the Webber days.

As much as I love the old Pats unis, I like the new ones, too. I think they look like an updated classic, if that makes sense. Certainly not nearly as ghastly as the new Denver or Tampa Bay ones, both of which are far inferior to the old ones, to name two...

Actually, I never liked the old Patriots uniforms. The color red isn't one of my favorite colors. I just dug that logo. I'm not big on the color white, but the white helmet was alright like how the Chargers changed to a white helmet with the bolt from the blue with the bolt. All Patriots marketing department had to do was to abandon the red and update the old uniforms to a more modern design and left the old logo and white helmet as is. Maybe tweak it a tad like the Bruins did with their old B logo.

The 49ers are another good example of a NFL team that kept their old logo and simply touched it up a little bit and did the same with the uniforms.
