That's hilarious , but only cause I'm from Africa and I know how ignorant these little kids in the village would have been. THe difference is with those kids there is no malicious or Superiority complex associated with the gesture. They are professing their fascination with Karate flicks and the people they see do them best. Spain on the other hand is known for their racist remarks to players on their own soccer club teams. Making Monkey noises and stuff because players are black and comparing them to apes ? Spanish , and the portuguese are the instigators of Racist ideals and caste systems imposed in other countries. From the inquisition to slavery , this is their legacy .

Do you want to discuss about your country's legacy? Im supposing you are american, but anyway EVERY country has a past of violence, judging a country for what happened centuries ago is just ridiculous, people evolve among time.
That Afircan case is exactly the same case, but not for a lack of ignorance, just for different cultures, like i said in the other thread that gesture in Spain is NOT racist, and no one from China found it racist either.
That soccer incidents happened twice, yes there are racist people here like in every other country in the world, and unfortunately they make a lot of noise, but most of people here condemn racist at all.

Okay... what happens if the chinese team decides to Pose in a picture with all their skin colored black? How does that "taste" to you?

Point is, some people will get offended. Some will not. Both should respect their various opinion about it and not just disregard people's reaction. I

Actually, I think this would be one of the most hilarious time bomb defusing things that could possibly happen. If it was done light heartedly like the poor taste spanish photo I'm sure was, it would really ease any lingering tension imo.

Remember the *cough kobe cough* incident? That was worse.

As long as he apologizes when someone brings it up, he'll be fine.

It's not the end of the world.

All this people in China asking for signatures and photographs from Pau Gasol (and Ricky Rubio, Calderon,...) must be masochists, or maybe intelligent?

this all goes back to that picture that was created in the early 1900s that depicted people slanting their eyes in the same picture that king kong was clutching a white woman...

rumor has it that vogue magazine is getting some spanish players together for a cover shoot solely to create heated forum discussion.

Like someone said earlier, the Chinese team/media weren't even making as much of a big deal about this as the American media. The Chinese team should have came back with a team picture of them making their eyes wide open. THAT would've been hilarious.

Just to be safe, Pau should not visit any Chinese Restaurants...

All this talk about Spanish team's photo being racist is (Please Use More Appropriate Word)... as other posters already rightfully pointed out, even Chinese - with their well-known sensibility as to being judged by the foreigners - didn't make a fuss about it, only Americans did. Those who care about this: can you imagine that your obsession about "racism" - if Chinese team got photographed with muletas, it'd have to be anti-Spanish racist behavior as well, right? - is just as (un) justified as Chinese being oversensitive about Tibet here?

So if I were you, I'd be content with Pau's (obviously insincere, since unfair and forced) apology now. It's still far more than this incident deserved.

This is incredible
Now seems Spanish we are racists.
And this accusation comes from USA and England this sounds incredible!
I know England hate spaniards because of F1 drivers at McLaren (2 drivers had his differences in a English Team), they have done a good job like always! but I didn't expect it from USA press.
We have seen in Spain more photos about a team with finger on eyes. Basketball team, Tennis Federation managers (You can also kill Nadal) and Handball Staff.
This was only a gesture like saying "We are going to China, to the Olympics"!
And the Tennis federation photo was taken in a Restaurant after a Dinner with china Embassy people, where they gave presents each other.
It makes me sad how press lies people and people are so "shortminded" to think spain is racist!

But it's ok it's you who vote Bush! to have a better world!

The fact, that this picture has been discussed that much in the US and not in the whole world tells me, that in the States the racial problem is still one of the biggest issues (apart fom the low USD, the bad economy. non existant health care system and an empty treasury because the money has been spent all around the world instead of spending it in the own country [a country I still consider as great nation])

no other country is so mixed up like the United States but it seems to me that the different races didn't find a way to each other. The elections will show it. Obama is the example that racial problem is still a big one. How many will vote because of the skin and not realy what's best? How many will be scared about the a possible new direction? (I hope for Obama. By the way, he's the most popular american politican since JFK)

People who are being wrongfully generalized decide to retaliate by wrongfully generalizing back. This discussion is getting so unibrow, I'm going to lock it.
