I think Danny is right around Iggy's talent level but I think he excels in the off the court things. He's been huge for the Pacers and restoring the image problem. He's great in the community and an easily like-able guy. I say give it to him. The Pacers have shown they're not afraid to throw big money at their superstars(Jermaine O'neal) except Danny isn't injury prone.

Bucky O'Hare wrote:What makes Granger valuable is that he brings it on both ends of the court. He can give you 20+ a night while hitting over 40% from downtown, while also putting up 1+ steal and 1+ block a night from the small forward position.

Iggy's a good overall player, but the only thing he has on Granger is ball handling. That may be enough for Jon Amaechi and Patterns, but it's not enough for me.
What about passing ? Iggy is very good passer. Iggy is slightly better defender and has more potential in almost everything. I understand why Indiana is giving that money but he is overpaid like most of the league.

We'd take him here in Portland. I hope he signs his QO so that we could pay him Iggy money next year. Indy is wise to keep him. If you guys want to poke fun at the Pacers' overpaying take a look at Tinsley, but lay off of Granger.

He’s pretty good, but he’s not as good as Iggy. He’s a better 3 point shooter (and apparently a world-class nice guy) and that’s about it.

I'd say he's clearly a better scorer than Iggy while also being a little better on the glass and on defense.

As a scorer that's debatable. Granger might have the upper hand but he's not "clearly a better scorer", so I'm not sure how you came to that conclusion. Considering Iggy averages just slightly over Granger in terms of PPG on better shooting percentages you can't conclude Granger is clearly a better scorer. Granger appears to be a better 3 point threat though so I'll give him that. He also has an advantage in terms of rebounds but he doesn't play with a great rebounder like Dalembert either. On defense, I've seen quite a few 76ers game and Iggy is a pretty damn good defender so I'll have to keep my eye out on Granger for this upcoming season. But if my memory serves correct in the few games I've watched of the Pacers I don't recall Granger doing a great job on his defense.

What about Jeff Foster? He's always been one of the best rebounders in the league avg 9 per game in only 25 min, he's just underrated. Granger is a pretty good defender. He doesn't grab steals like Iggy but he excels blocking shots and out of the SF position that's a pretty good asset.

This type of money for Danny bothers me because it means other players around the league are going to be seeking a similar contract. The first player that comes to mind is Marvin Williams and his agent licking they're chops if Danny receives a contract like this.

No way, I don't see how you can compare Marvin Williams to Danny. Marvin hasn't lived up to being 3rd overall and he's like the 5th best player on his team. Danny is cleary the leader and the franchise player for the Pacers. It's completely different roles IMO.

Granger shoots a much better 3% and FT% and also puts up a slightly better points-per-shot. And true, Iggy scored .3 more points per game, but it took him nearly 4 additional minutes of playing time to do so. It's close, but overall I think it's pretty obvious Granger is the more talented scorer. The fact that he's blossomed into one of the leagues top shooters gives his offense a versatility that Iguodala's lacks.

As for rebounding, the Pacers have very good rebounders at just about every position, so I'm not buying the Dalembert argument.

Defense, again, I highly doubt you've seen much of Granger considering the Pacers had just 1 nationally televised game last year. The fact that we finished a respectable 10th in the league in opponents FG% while playing Diener, Dunleavy, and Murphy major minutes is a testament to Granger's defense, as he was our best defender last season.

No other team would offer Granger that kind of cash, nobody. Granger is a nice piece, but I don't even know if he's a second option on a championship team. I see him playing a Celtics Ray Allen 3rd option role on a winning team. 9-10 million a season is in his ball park. Also with Igoudala and Deng, Sixers and Bulls management are very hopeful that both of those guys will continue to mature and get a whole lot better, especially in Iggy's case, those guys got paid for current production and future potential. Although I doubt Deng gets any better...
