So whats the Spurs roster gonna look like?

Will free agents like damon and finley return or will the draft picks be signed?

Stoudamire is a 100% gone..I don't see any reason for him returning..

I could see Finley returning if Pargo doesn't sign..otherwise, I don't think so..I don't want him either way, he's done IMO..

I expect Hill on the roster, since management likes him a lot..Mahinmi will be on the roster IMO, since there's nothing else he can really do in the D-league..he needs to get some real NBA action..Tolliver is a toss-up, but I'd like to see him on the roster..

I really wanted Gist on the team this year, I think we could have used a player like that..

I hope to see a lineup of:

Parker/Pargo/Hill
Mason/Ginobili/Pargo
Udoka/Bowen/Ginobili
Duncan/Oberto/Tolliver
Thomas/Mahinmi

in reality, I'm expecting:

Parker/Vaughn/Hill
Mason/Ginobili
Bowen/Udoka
Duncan/Bonner/Tolliver
Oberto/Thomas/Mahinmi

I would agree with Thomas starting. I think he is the best big we have aside from Duncan. He's a good compliment to Tim with his mid range jumper, rebounding, and post defense. Plus i think Oberto plays better with Manu anyways.

I can see Horry retiring and Finley joining a contender, but whats next for Damon? He can't be done just yet in his career.

I felt bad for Damon because he never really found his niche here. I had high hopes for him when he signed but just didnt work out.

I'm really done hoping for the best when it comes to having an offensive minded backup PG. We started off with NVE who couldn't really find a niche here despite being given some minutes. Then Damon last year. Not to mention Udrih. I don't really think Pargo would've been a good fit here. Pop likes a defensive minded backup PG. I would even go out and say that I think Marcus Banks would be a better backup PG for us than Pargo because of his defense. Thou, I wouldn't touch Banks' contract.

I think we could have a two-way back-up PG in Hill, sooner or later

Parker/ Hill
Mason/ Ginobli
Bowen/ Udoka
Duncan/ Oberto
Darko/ Thomas/ Mahinmi

I pretty much expect the Spurs or Heat to get Darko

i dont see how it could happen. we would have to send out at about 5.6 mil in contracts to make it work, and we dont have any expirings going into this season. it would have to be some kind of package involving some combination of oberto/thomas/mason/bonner/finley to make the salaries match (and i have no idea why memphis would want any of that). we simply dont have the assets to pull much right now.

it actually can work out pretty well for both teams

San Antonio can send a draft pick along with any combination of Oberto/Finley or Oberto/Bonner

Memphis needs a backup PF, and while it would be nice to keep Oberto I think a good C is too much to pass u p

but why would memphis want said package? those packages only save them about 4-6 mil over the next two seasons. they could trade darko for expirings alone and save at least 7.5 mil. add to that the fact that we cant trade a 1st round pick until 2011, and that 2nd round picks have little to no value (especially the ones we currently own), and there is no reason for memphis to trade with us.

I sadly have to agree with your logic.

Guess you can only expect for Memphis to pull a Pau-trade-lite ;)...

i should probably take this to the darko thread, but ive made all my posts on it here, and its only going to be seem by like 10 people anyway, so whatever. for the record, i like darko.

hes still a young big man, with very good size, and a bit of a mean streak. hes at least as mobile as our returning front court tandem of oberto and KT (if not more so), and beats them both in the size department. his per36 numbers all compare favorably with our two guys, except hes a much more adept shot blocker. he does turn the ball over a bit more, but has a has had a higher usage% than oberto and KT in recent years. and again, hes still rather young, and didnt get a decent run until he got shipped out of detroit (2.5 years into his career). not that i think hes going to drastically improve, but there is still time to polish some of the rough edges.

so if our poo-poo platter of, well, crap can get the job done, im all for it. i just cant see how its even remotely possible.
