I Think Gasol is Just Soft

Post#1 » by dingclancy » Sat Aug 23, 2008 2:08 am

Watching the Olympics, I think Gasol is mushmash. Let us face it. Scola who has less talent on his team and individually was able to bang inside, get to his spot, rebound, toyed with the USA bigs and made Melo cry. Gasol against USA could have done the same thing Scola did but he was wading on the post, catching, and fumbling. When the pressure is on, Gasol shucks.

Thank god Bynum is here. Bynum will be to Gasol what Gasol was to Odom; a pressure reliever

 I was thinking the same thing. What exactly has Pau shown in the Olympics that wasn't already blatantly obvious? He is what he is -- an extremely skilled and versatile big who is going to fold at the first sign of physical contact.

He's not soft. I hate it when people compair players to other players. It makes me sick. You think that heys are supposed to put up number like the players befor them. Let them do them damnit. Stop compairing them to other before them. Kobe it Kobe he isn't Jordan, let Jordan be Jordan.

I rather have Pau than not have him. Every player has some parts of his game that can be upgraded and made better.

Obviously the OP is a tad ignorant of the type of player Pau really is. NO he is not a Shaq type bulldozer player, the man has genuine skill in this sport and utilizes finesse. He is only limited by his physical aspects of his body.

These types of threads makes me sick. Just shows how spoiled and unappreciative us laker fans are. Gasol just helped us get to the Finals, and fans are still complaining. Sure he has weaknesses, but every player does. stop complaining, we're blessed to have him on our team, be thankful

scola was defended by melo. pau was going head to head with dwight howard. big difference.

What fly did bite you ? We already know that Pau is soft, but, without him last year, we were a playoff bound team. When we got him, we became title contenders even without Bynum and beat the entire West in one breath ! What do you want more ? You pissed me off !!

Useless and stupid thread !

I am a fan of the Lakers and love how Gasol fit very seamlessly in with Odom and Kobe but don't be delusional and biased. When someone calls Gasol soft, respectfully agree and leave at that.

Dude is 7 feet tall and grabs like 6 boards a game ... S-O-F-T, soft, soft, soft ... and overpayed too.

Mark my word, as Bynum rises Gasol becomes more and more expendable. If Odom can be kept for 8 mill per, I'd dump Gasol in second for more affordable types. You all are way too emotional about players ie. Walton, Gasol, Turiaf, etc. Use the other side of your brain.

Put KG on the list, too. I'm not going to go back and total up the numbers like I did during the playoffs, but he held all four of those players to well under their standard shooting %s during our run. He's going to look bad at times, either by getting overpowered on the boards or dunked on, because as we all know he's not the strongest or quickest guy in the world. But if he can stay in front of his man, which he does more often or not, he's a super-long 7-footer who's going to make you shoot over him. Doesn't change the fact that he hates contact, but this is one area where he definitely doesn't get enough credit.

Pau has still had individual games none of the Team USA players can touch this tournament. I think he's going to involved more in the Finals than in the group play game, though I still think Team USA will win in a convincing way. Having Kobe on the opposing team really works against Pau though, since Kobe should know where Pau prefers to get the ball etc. and can inform the bigs on Team USA how to play against him most efficiently.

Scola has been really impressive this tournament, but Pau still scores as much (0.1 more), rebounds as much, assists twice as much, blocks more shots and shoots a higher percentage from the floor (69% to be exact) in 5 minutes LESS playing time per game than Scola.

In my opinion, Pau has been the MVP of this tournament. Team USA and Spain were supposed to make the Finals. Both did, but Pau has been more instrumental in getting Spain there than any single Team USA player has been for Team USA I think.
