Nelson hosts 3rd team retreat "Building Magic"

Eleven of the 13 players on the Magic's roster have spent the past week in Philadelphia as a guest of Nelson's working out on the basketball court and bonding away from it. It's the third consecutive year that Nelson, Orlando's starting point guard and a native of Chester, Pa., has arranged the offseason retreat dubbed, "Building Magic." Nelson picked up the tab for flights and lodging for the team while in Philadelphia.

Howard, Team USA's starting center in the Olympics, and small forward Hedo Turkoglu, who is in his native Turkey, were the only players to miss the retreat. The camp is voluntary and the Magic have no contact with the team during the retreat, per NBA rules.

Magic players have spent the past five days working in the mornings on strength and conditioning exercises at Villanova and then scrimmaging in the afternoons. The morning sessions included boxing workouts, balance exercises and video analysis of proper running and jumping techniques.

And in their spare time, the team has dined together, held bowling and paintball tournaments and attended a Philadelphia Phillies game as a group. Nelson, a former college star at St. Joseph's, even threw out the first pitch before Wednesday's game. The team will close the retreat this weekend with a gambling junket to Atlantic City, N.J.

This is the 3rd year that Nelson has done this and its fantastic. Thats what you call taking the leadership role by the horns.

Oh and Denton embarrasses the Sentinel again, whats new lmao.

This always makes me very pleased to see. It is great when the team comes together and I have to give props to Jameer for putting this together. I am not his biggest fan at all but I really appreciate that he does this and it is definitely great for team chemistry. These are the type of things that a leader should do. Good job Jameer.

Great thing for Jameer to do especially before the Pre-Season. Team building is the most important thing and I really like the fact that the Magic Front Office cannot contact them or distract them from this. But it would suck if you were Keith Bogans or JJ Redick and you come back to find out you have been traded. But still a great idea by Jameer. AND LOL AT DENTON BEATING THE SENTINEL TO SOMETHING AGAIN. BS IS AWFUL.

1) This was printed in Philly's paper like a week ago (as rept'd on orlandomagic.com boards)
2) LOL at a money management seminar, followed by a weekend trip to Atlantic City

Yes, I expect someone on Denton's forum told him about it.

This is the third year in which we've learned about Jameer's camp after it was over. Clearly, he doesn't talk to the media.

I posed this question over at the O-Zone, and I am curious as to the answers.

With Dwight not being there, and Keyon being gone, who do you think is the funniest person on the team?

It seems like we don't have many extroverted guys on the team.

^^^^Gortat.

He's funny, he's smart, he's good looking.....
11/18/2017 - I have officially disowned Nikola Vucevic and branded him a loser.

- Skal Labissiere was my guy in 2016 pre-trade. Whoops, but I still believe.
- Malik Monk was my guy in 2017. Whoops(?)
- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

Unfortunate that our two best players aren't there, but that's still really impressive that every Magic player who is in the country went to Philly. Great for guys like Lee and Pietrus to see what they are going to be part of now.

Though it seems to me the Sweet Lew might have helped Jameer with the bill.

Agreed and this is why Jameer is so important to this team even when he goes through slumps.

Pietrus. He's hilarious and extremely outgoing... and he has a funny accent.

Mikael Peaches is a really funny guy. Foyle strikes me as a guy who tries really hard to be funny, but really isn't. Hedo too, for some reason.
