European Under-16 Championship? Why should anyone care about this?

Same reason people care about High School juniors in the US, especially when they are playing against the best in their country. And he was dominating, that's why people care.

The same reason OJ Mayo was mentioned in Sports Illustrated while he was in junior high.

The same reason kids like Derrick Favors already have full scouting reports written up on them, and he just turned 17 last month.

That's why.

It's more like a tournament of all-americans. But instead of being in High School a lot of those kids had been on lower level professional teams which is common in Europe.

And tell me when the last time a high school player 51 points, or 24 rebounds, or 12 assists in a top level high school playoff game? Much less doing it all in one game.

If here were in the US right now he'd be the best high-schooler and the #1 college prospect no question.

pretty much all US prep schools are full of all americans and future college basketball players. and this is the US where their is a bigger population and the majority of athletes gravitate towards basketball and football.

Full of All-Americans? Do you know that there's 24 All-Americans each year so US prep schools are not "full of all americans''

Thing is, Rubio is almost 18. 2 years from now he won't be a half a player like that Mills guy from Australia is. And no one talks about him. That's the problem.

Race issue? Would have been a vice versa situation had Ricky been black and Mills white? Not claiming anything just my 2 cents.

They're contested harder than the "defense below the Rookie-Sophomore game level" exhibition that McDonald's held in Milwaukee last year.

Are you serious? America is bigger then Europe? Europe has more then 700 million people in it, that's more then twice the size of the US.

He's dominating a faster growing basketball population then America has to offer.

OJ Mayo being mentioned in junior high doesn't matter? Maybe to scouts at that time, but it doesn't show how they will perform in the NBA. I'm not questioning the age I am questioning the competition.

Under 16s in USA >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Under 16s in Europe. Have you ever been to a Nike or Addidas camp? You would would be surprised to see how many people at the level of Ricky Rubio (expect stronger, faster, and with better jumpshots) but then again Rubio's basketball IQ would still be at a very elite level.

Now I think about it Rubio reminds me of a shorter Nick Calethes from Florida.

He was playing against a pool of players from countries that more then double the total population of the US, so it's impossible for you to state the talent level isn't as good because the fact is it as good or better.

And you're ignoring that he played in the ACB league which is the highest non NBA level competition in the world... when he was 14.

He's been playing with NCAA level teams and higher for more then 3 years, and he's only 18.

Are you the kind of guy who doesn't think Larry Bird could compete in todays game either because a lot of his game was based on IQ, or John Stockton?
