Larry Brown and the 2004 Olympic Saga

Post#1 » by Troubadour » Tue Aug 26, 2008 3:10 am

Ok, so Larry Brown, 4 years later, is blaming the lack of commitment on 9/11, of all things.

I highly doubt an attack on one's nation would make one feel less patriotic. If anything, the athletes would feel more fired up to defend the honour of their nation.

To me, this seems like just another cop out.

I think he was referring to players' concerns about safety overseas at the first Olympics after 9/11.

Huh? :o I don't think Brown is saying the 04 Olympics caused 9/11.

In Greece? Greece is the sex and smoking capital of the world, not the terrorism capital of the world.

If the players, like Allen Iverson and LeBron, were truly that concerned, do you think they would have gone to the Olympics? The American athletes have some of the best security in the world.

There was no chance of a Munich Olympics...

2004 Falls on the players and him. Blaming 9/11 is the worst cop out i've ever heard in my life. The 2004 debacle falls squarely on the players: Duncan, Lebron, Wade, Melo, AI. The 2006 WBC falls directly on Lebron, Wade, Melo, Chris Paul, and company. The gold and the championships should be ours every year...

Thank God for Kobe.

I'm not saying he's right or wrong - I'm saying you misinterpreted what he meant in your original post.

Hmm thats not what I meant. I mean he is blaming a terrorist attack in 01 for his team losing in 04. I don't care if a couple players decided not to go over safety issues, they still had far and above the deepest talent pool to pull from. I just thought it was a pathetic excuse.

Is he personally blaming the 9/11 attacks, or is he simply saying that players told him and the people assembling the team that they are worried about traveling overseas at this time due to 911 and world events?

Because im pretty sure a few years ago a few players were saying they didnt want to go overseas.

LOL@agentzeroTO...sex and smoking capital :D Man they have a 4000 year of a history and you title them as the sex capital? If there's a sex and smoking capital it's gotta be Amsterdam nowhere else.

Following RealGM "logic":

OMFG USA are a bunch of crybabies... 9/11 three years later on Greece? They should be called "Whiny A********" Oh, how I hate them, with his constant excuses. They can take a bronze like men, they're just a bunch of crybabies.

P.S: Now, seriously, that's the worse excuse I've ever listened. Not even close. At least the Spanish travelling tirade has some foundation. But payback is a b****, isn't it?. While you're acting wild over Spaniards, along comes Larry with this. I'm laughing with y'all 24/7.

Enjoy the read.

I wasn't denying the history, I was pointing out that Greece has good things, not terrorism.

Well a yellow press magazine won't change my opinion since Athens is only 1 hour from here but thanks I got your point. Still Amsterdam is the capital of smoking-sex :D Yes they don't have sunny weather but they've Red Light and it's legal to smoke weed. :)

Has Larry Brown ever accepted responsibility/accountability for anything negative? The man is full of excuses.

He's right. Many of the top athletes chickened out from going to Athens because they thought Osama was going to get them. Why do you think they sent a bunch of rookies and guys like Marbury there?

This is also why have lots of respect for superstars like Iverson and Duncan because they went while others of their stature were being babies.

Larry Brown skirts responsibility? Thats shocking

He has evolved into such a hack lately I consider a bronze under his leadership a success.

I bet 9/11 caused Brown to do a worse job coaching the Knicks than Isaiah, too.

And when Charlotte misses the playoffs this year, that'll be because of 9/11 as well.
