So afterall it was Strawberry who asked to be traded

Post#1 » by XmasSantaClaus » Wed Aug 27, 2008 4:02 am

"For me, I feel I can play in this league, and if I wasn't going to get the opportunity, I just wanted to play somewhere. I did want to be in Phoenix. But if I wasn't going to get the minutes, I couldn't sit on the bench. They understood that, and my agent let them know that." Strawberry said.

So DJ is off to Houston and the Suns have brought in a diminutive "true" point guard in Sean Singletary, who has been traded twice already since being drafted in June. Singletary offers some of the same things Strawberry did as far as defensive prowess but with superior ball handling and playmaking ability. However, he will similarly find his path to playing time blocked and could end up spending substantial time in the D-league."

And yes, that's what I said two weeks ago here. He wanted out...he knew he was gonna sit his ass on the bench and he let the front office know he wasn't going to be happy with that. Not exactly a shocking revelation.

I love DJ and all, but he is being unrealistic if he thinks there is a team out there willing to give him 20mins a game right now.

His best chance to make it is to try and develop his game this year. Then look for other opportunities if he isn't going to get them in Phoenix.

He was getting his chances here, he played 33 games last year, as well a some play-off experience (albeit only a few minutes).

This is something you hear from a lottery pick, that was drafted to a championship calibre team... Shouldn't be hearing it from a 59th pick after <12 months in the league.

There is no way he is getting minutes in Houston either , maybe he should ask to be traded or cut right now because he has no chance.

He wasn't complaining about getting 20min a game. if he stayed in Phx he would be lucky to get 5min. There was little chance he would be playing more than 10min per game anyway. He wasn't crying about that, but the fact that he was so far back in the rotation that there just weren't enough minutes for him, let alone 20min. It definitely had nothing to do with his ego, but more about his career.

In his contract year (last year) he was benched the whole season by D'Antoni since he doesn't develop rooks. Being a 2nd round pick, its make or break in this league, and since he wasn't given PT last season, he had to get some PT somewhere if Phx weren't going to give it to him.

He probably wanted to go to a rebuilding team so he can get some minutes and show he can play. I don't think there was anything wrong with wanting to prove yourself especially when this is what you want in life. He probably doesn't have anything against phoenix or the phoenix front office, but he understood the situation and knew he won't get many minutes on a championship-caliber team.

Screw all the haters, hating on a guy trying to make a living man. Good luck to him and I hope he finds a team who'll give him minutes.

--- You got it. Guy has a right to look out for himself - there's nothing unprofessional about asking to be moved, given the circumstances. It's do or die time for him.
Hope he finds a place somewhere.

Haha looking out for himself ???

Had he just STF up and stayed in PHNX at least he would be making $700K. All he had to do was play hard and earn his minutes, wait for the chance to play while gleaning as much knowledge from Nash, Bell, Hill, Porter, etc as he can.

As it stands now, he will likely be cut and out beatin the street for a paycheck.

I finally figured it out..... D J = Delusional Jock

Strange...He wasn't going to play becaue there was no place for him on the team.

Not really a point guard. Not really a shooter/scorer.

Good for him. Nothing wrong with trying to go into a situation that is better for him. If he knew he wasn't going to crack the rotation, then he should have wanted to go else where. Good luck to D.J.

he might see slightly more minutes early on than he would of in PHX but towards the playoff push he won't see much now that Artest is there.
