Ceremony & Banner to honor Dwyane Wade going too far?

Post#1 » by Kobe>Jordan>God » Wed Aug 27, 2008 5:23 am

From the Wiretap & http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/bask ... 6216.story:

The Heat will honor gold-medal-winning guard Dwyane Wade with a public ceremony on Thursday at AmericanAirlines Arena, according to South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

An Olympics/Wade banner will be unveiled alongside the team's division and championship banners.

Isn't this a little bit excessive for winning at the Olympics? You don't see the Cleveland Cavaliers or the LA Lakers hoisting banners for LeBron & Kobe's participation... :nonono:

I always thought raising banners for division titles went too far. This is definitely over the top. What's next? Banner's for all star appearances? This is probably a PR move by the heat and Wade's people saying to the world that "Dwayne Wade is back" and all that nonsense. In my opinion. It's a tacky business move.

It's not excessive if you first understand why the Heat organization is holding this ceremony. Riles and co. are going to do everything in their power to keep Dwyane Wade in love with the city of Miami and the Heat organization, so it will be much easier to lock him back up in 2010. What better way to remind Wade of his success so far with the Heat than to hang a gold medal banner right next to the championship banner, both events in which he played a vital role?

We want Wade to feel like signing with another team in 2010 will be setting for less, no matter what.

coming from an organization that retired jordan's #23 for some reason, not at all surprising.

This is pretty sad, but not as sad as having Nate Robinson's jersey honored for summer league play.

Being probably the best player on the US senior mens national team that wins the biggest tournament in the world is a pretty substantial acomplishment, worthy of recognition even if it doesn't really have much to do with the Heat. It's just a sign of the increasing level of prestige associated with international basketball competition in the US, more commensurate with that in other countries, and I'm glad to see it

Assuring the fact that LeBron will never play there...

But in all seriousness it's up to any organization to do whatever they want... IMO it is a little over the top ..This was the epitome of "TEAM" and should be represented and praised as such...

But whatever...

If an athlete willed my pro team to a championship, he can have anything he wants in our city, including my woman, or my mom if he prefers.

I too am with the party that thinks it's over the top.

BUT, we are going to bow down to him to make him feel appreciated, and do everything in our power to have him resign with us in 2010.

It's just the way it is now days.....
