Lakers sign Crawford

Post#1 » by kwamicide » Wed Aug 27, 2008 10:12 pm

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. -- Joe Crawford, the Los Angeles Lakers' only selection in the NBA draft last June, signed a contract with the Western Conference champions on Wednesday.

Crawford, the 58th overall pick, averaged 11.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists in four years at Kentucky, where he played in 127 games, 76 of them starts.

The 22-year-old 6-foot-5 guard ranked fourth in the SEC in scoring as a senior with a team-leading 17.9-point average, and then averaged 11.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists in six Summer League games for the Lakers last month.

Terms of the deal were not announced.

It's going to be a war in training camp at the 2 spot for the third string job.

58th player chosen in the NBA draft. I would say he spends most of the season on the NBADL with the Lakers team. Rather have him playing than sitting on the bench and watching. Who knows if he will be good or just another body that will be taking a spot of someone who can really help. If we had the chance to sign Livingston, I would not be surprised to see Crawford being waived or sent over seas, or some other option.

I like this kid. From what I saw at summer league (which I'll admit wasn't every game) he was better than Coby. He had way better composure, a better jumper, and I liked his fundamentals on both ends of the floor. He actually really reminded me of a taller D-fish that could drive a tiny bit... but that was just summer league.

It'll be interesting to watch all our 3rd stringers duke it out for that last guard roster spot, especially since triple ocho will be out during the preseason. I really only want to take 1 out of those 3 players (Mitchell, Karl, Crawford) into the season, maybe 2 if they show us something really niiice like defensive hussle and prowess. We have 3 guards other than Kobe worthy of playing 30mpg in Fisher, Farmar, and Sasha... and we already got a legit project player in Yue. That last roster spot should go to Mbenga or another cheap big man... or if we really wanted another specialty type guard I'd love to get Lindsey Hunter back.

Another thing I'd like to point out is don't doubt 2nd round picks man, mitch is real good at drafting there. Brad Miller and Jamario moon were never drafted. Mitch picked up guys like turiaf... and even Cheik Samb who looks like a good player.

How about fixzing your signature. It bums me out everytime I see it. Lamar isn't garbage! And LUKE tries at least. Only one you can blast on is Vlade because he's so spacey, aloof, and effortless.

With him and Sun in the fold. Now who do the lakers add to the training camp roster. I think we need a few more big men to complete the big men vs. the guards.
