Hoopsworld: NBA All-Bust Team

Post#1 » by drsd » Mon Aug 25, 2008 9:31 am

J.J. Redick, Orlando Magic

Redick is not happy in Orlando and Orlando is not happy with Redick. He can shoot to be sure, but a player needs to have more than one skill to be a player in this league, especially one drafted in the lottery. Shooters will always have a home in the NBA, but Redick won't find his until he is either traded to a team specifically wanting a shooter or the Magic waive him. Unfortunately for both sides he was drafted to be a starting shooting guard, and his lack of defense makes it almost impossible to justify playing time – he gives up as many or more than he would score. Look for Redick to resurface outside of Orlando sometime – a la Jason Kapono.

What interests me is that virtually every player on the list - Adam Morrison, Sergio Rodriguez, Johan Petro, Sean May, Ike Diogu, and Shelden Williams - has been discussed here as a trade target for the Magic. Hmm.

I stil wonder why so many NBA teams keep drafting players they never use. Redick outside of Orlando? Could be, but he may end up in Europe as well.

I dont trust anything that hoopsworld posts. Just my thought. I agree with aleZ. Why draft someone if you are not going to use them. Or at least give them playing time to improve.

Well it is part of the Fantasy Sports Network might be a good reason why they don't seem to be working with facts. Just Pure Fantasy.

Sergio Rodriguez?..it's true he didn't perform well at all last season.

But can a player taken 30th...last in the 1st round...ever be considered a "bust"? What percentage of players selected 30th turn into good NBA players?

How can there be an "all bust team" without Darko? Isn't he the poster boy for bust?

He's working on it.

that bust list is horrible, many of those guys haven't been in the league long enough, or haven't had enough playing time to be a bust, sean williams productive, JJ no time to produce, and its not like you didn't know what u were getting when u drafted him. Sergio is what 2 years in the league adam morrison 2 years in, only guy on that list that might be a bust is may, he is sweetney pt. 2 and won't keep weight off to stay on the court. Kwame way bigger bust than those guys, kandi man bust, Jay williams, bust just cause he was dumb, these guys still have a chance, they are still young.

Sean May is hardly a bust. Injury prone? Yes. When healthy, the guy is a load and can put up decent numbers.

Not sure I'd call Adam Morrison a bust after one year either.

They only considered those on rookie deals, hence no Darko, Kwame, etc., which makes is somewhat counter-intuitive, since if they're on a rookie deal, that means that many haven't really had much of an opportunity to prove themselves yet. It would seem natural that the longer a player has been in the league, the more weight you can carry in calling them a bust.

With that said, from that list, I'd be happy to have Shelden Williams.

Yeah I always thought being a bust was failing to play up to the potential or position you had in the draft. IMO most of those players have put what was expected of them, with a couple exceptions. And even then they have time to grow and produce.

It's a decent article, but a common trend is shared by most players. The amount of minutes they play, a player can't prove themselves with limited minutes. Only real one is Adam Morrison, who had a decent rookie season-load in terms of minutes. Other then that all them players don't get many minutes.

Morrison isn't (at least yet) a bust. He looked to have improved a lot last preseason before going down with an injury. WAY too early to label him.

Sean May is another good player who has been injury prone so far in his short career.

Redick shouldn't be on the list either, because he hardly gets playing time with all the guards in front of him.

The term "bust" gets thrown around FAR too loosely and FAR too quickly these days.
