Could we start Delonte at SG?
If not what are we planning to do with the SG spot. We have a huge hole at that position. Sasha was terrible last year and Wally is better to have off the bench.

No, he's simply too short. I wish he were 4-5 inches taller, he'd be a poor man's Doug Christie. That's not to say he could never play at the guard spot alongside Mo. He definitely could play with Mo or Boobie, but it would depend on the situation. Delonte and Boobie played together at times last season and there are some shooting guards Delonte might have a chance of playing defense against, but only in certain situations.
The key word here is situation. Delonte should be a situational combo guard off the bench, not an everyday starter.

much respect to the 2011-2012 champions, Miami Heat, well deserved

Re: Could we start Delonte at SG?
Delonte wants to be a starter as well he should. Every player should. He is on the cusp of being considered a starting guard. The signing of Mo probably does not sit well with him and it may be in his best interest to sign the qualifying offer. I like him and want him to sign a contract but would it be prudent for him to play for a team that he knows he won't start for? Obviously the Cavs cannot give guarantees but I would want some security knowing my talents would be utilized. How many here think Delonte would be doing himself a service to sign long term with the Cavs. He has shown he can run the point. If we would have gotten a good scoring shooting guard then he would have been the perfect point guard. A point who can score in the right situation and a good defensive player. But instead we got a score first point guard.

I'm not sure he'd start at SG but it is obvious that he'd get alot of playing time alongside Mo.

best thing for cleveland to do is play sasha, yes he had a bad year last year but he still has potential and the biggest reason I say play him is to get his trade value up, his contract is not horrible and a team at the deadline would like him as a piece if he can be more consistent like he was down the stretch 2 seasons ago and really showed he had some defensive skills as well as attacking the rim. I prefer gibson to play the 2 but really think he the better will be better off keeping gibson on the bench.

The best thing for Cleveland to do is have an open competition, may the best man win.

Delonte holds his own against taller Shooting Guards. but over the long season it probably isn't the best idea. The best situation for Delonte is to just sign the qualifying offer and make the best of the situation. Play his 20 mpg which isn't the best for him and then bolt to another team..hopefully helping the Cavs when a championship. The cavs have now an overpaid Point Guard on their team and wont' be able to afford both of them in my opinion. Mo needs to become an all-star or this trade doesn't work since he needs to play like one for the Cavs to win a championship. They are handcuffed in alot of ways financially despite the expirings they will have. However I know the owner will spend some money for the sake of winning.
I don't think the Cavs really even need Wally to play SG now that they have Mo. They can just start Boobie or DWest or play Pavs when Boobie/Delonte can't handle the defensive assignment. I know Delonte will be able to handle his over short 5-6 minutes spurts against the best.

Its actually far and away the best option for the Cavs, he isn't so short that he can't play the SG position in fact during his career he has been better both offensively and defensively at SG.

Re: Could we start Delonte at SG?
I never thought of this until that last post but Delonte was a great 2 guard in college playing in the backcourt with Jameer Nelson. He was a decent 2 guard in the NBA but playing in the backcourt with Mo may be better for when Mo goes in scoring mode and we need the ballhandler to have Lebron on one wing and Mo on the other. I think we got obsessed with Coach Browns love with the tall SG and didnt realize that most SGs are still 6'3 to 6'5.

i don't think west starting at the 2 is a good idea
* we would have a very small back-court
*we are good at the guard(mo,boobie, kinsey, pav, wally)
*we need to trade west for a solid big(lee, frye, possibly darko)
*we don't have the money he wants & neither sides can't come to any agreement & him signing the QO are signs for disaster(like AV)

Re: Could we start Delonte at SG?
Wally and Sasha are both below average players. I don't want either of them starting. Sasha has NEVER proven he is a good player and that includes the 2006-2007 season. Why people still want to give him playing time is beyond me. He isn't good on defense (his guarding VC that one game was just a fluke) and he is scared to ever take it strong to the hoop. Wally....well he is better because at least he knows what he can and can't do.
West is easily our best option the starting SG. He is a better defender than Wally and he can do more things on offense. What it all comes down to is whether or not he can guard these 2 players..............Richard Hamilton or Ray Allen. I don't see why he couldn't guard either. And if he struggles, we can bring in Wally off the bench or take Mo out of the game and let Delote slide to the PG spot.
