Amare: practiced no defense in 3 yrs

Stoudemire seems more than happy to pass off some or all of the blame for his team's mediocre defense, however, to the departed coaching staff of Mike D'Antoni.

He was asked about his new coach.

"I love Terry Porter," Stoudemire says to the camera. "His method. His way of coaching is going to be great for us. You know, he's extremely focused on the defensive end, something that we haven't practiced at all in the previous three years, and now we're definitely practicing and improving on the defensive end."

can't blame amare for being horrible on the defensive end anymore!

Obinna is waking up from the grave to tell Amare to get back in bed and shut the hell up.

Fair swipe at D'Antoni, mind you seems accurate enough

Not too surprising.

I thought there'd be something of mention, though - like at least an inconsistent focus, doing it at times, like after bad, obvious losses. Maybe there was.

But certainly the main blame goes on D'Antoni and his coaching staff for the Suns defensive short-comings, and of course the ultimate result of the Suns emphasis and style of play. D'Antoni dictating everything. The key thing there, was there was not nearly enough roster adjustment for defense and rebounding. Kurt Thomas, Raja Bell, Brian Skinner, and mid-30s Shaq over the years after 05, just weren't going to do enough to improve their defensive situation. Specifically with the bringing in of Thomas, you can't rely on Kurt Thomas to be your defensive anchor (not in the main sense, anyway). Now, getting Raja Bell was definitely a good move, but still, there just wasn't the team defense, and especially interior defense, for Bell to have around the most impact an above-average perimeter defender can have.

As an organization, they just didn't have that kind of committment to defense and rebounding a title-seeking squad needs.

Suns still need to improve their defensive personnel. And, really, they can't with certain key players until they retire or exit somehow. Again, they'll get better to an extent with a different philosophy with Porter, but not notably better relative to how they need(ed) to.

Everybody knew that the Suns just relied on teams missing shots.............that WAS their defense.

Amare has better D than Dirk. It's well documented folks, just ask Obinna.

Do people honestly believe that the Suns could have won the championship with a defensive minded coach? Do you think Steve Nash could have become a good perimeter defender with a defensive minded coach? Do you think Amare and Marion are more effective with a half court set? The suns didn't have the players to win a championship, it takes more than having good scorers and a 7 man rotation to earn a ring. At least they made some games enjoyable. If I were the suns I would trade nash who still have some value and try to rebuilt using shaq expiring salary.

I guess D'Antoni doesn't like to waste time on hopeless challenges.

05/06 tells a different story; they were one of the better defensive teams in the league.

Obviously, defense was an afterthought, but to say that they didn't practice "AT ALL" seems to be another case of Amare being Amare.

No surprise. Amare is the most selfish player in the nba and never takes responsibility for anything. I wish the suns just trade this selfish fool.

Amare was then quoted stating:
"Whose house, My House"

Edit: Amare has all the tools to be an elite defender, I just question his motivation as you should.
