The addition of Artest pretty much signaled the end of the Mike Harris era. I expect Strawberry to make the team and spend the year in the injured list.

NY basketball is irrelevant in the world of sports. I don't think anyone would care.

Yeah but he hasn't done everything I wanted him to do or made a trade every day! GEEZ!
Come on Morey get it done!
</faux overenthusiasm>
For the Dorsey guy in the other thread, it's because you can't do everything overnight, timing is everything.
At this point, I can't believe anyone manages to complain about anything Morey does ever. Period.
p.s. 3 cheers for cutting salary!
p.p.s. didn't the knicks win a game like 3 years ago? i wouldn't call that irrelevant!

Morey 2020.

I don't remember them winning any games, but Nate Robinson did block Yao's shot that time.
Oh, and Eddy Curry broke Kirk Snyder's hand. That injury pretty much ruined Snyder's career in Houston; he never got back into the rotation.

For those who don't know, Weis was the victim of Vince Carter's dunk in the Olympics.

Re: Ewing Jr traded for Frederick Weis
Weiss is one of the most hated guys in NY sports. He's that disliked, make no mistake, though it wasn't his fault. The guy to blame was Ed Tapscott.
the 1999 draft was an interesting one for NY. With the 15th pick, NY had the highest pick they'd had in about 10 years. They'd been on a wining run with Ewing throughout the 90s. There were 5 desirable PGs in that draft and NY's weakest position was PG. NY wanted one of those PGs.
The 5 PGs were:
Steve Francis, Barron Davis, Andre Miller, Jason Terry, William Avery (yeah, Avery was a scrub, but he was a respected prospect out of college).
NY was offered a trade from Toronto, the #5 pick for Chris Childs and the #15 pick. NY would have taken Andre Miller with the pick, and Childs was coming off a good season and a nice playoff run, but van Gundy told CHeckets that he didn't like Miller and he wanted to keep Childs.
NY may have been hoping that Avery fell to 15, but the Wolves took him at 14.
It was a deep draft. Fans wanted Ron Artest. It was also a strange yeare for NY. NY barely made the playoffs before going to the finals, and late in the season, Ernie Grunfeld was fired and Ed Tapscott was made interim assistant GM. Tapscott traveled Europe looking for a Euro star. He picked Weiss and that pick got him fired. NY purchased rights to hire Scott Layden from Utah shortly after.
There's a rumor that Tapscott deliberatly sabotaged the team, because he was friends with Ernie Grunfeld. Don't know if that's true or not.
What is true is that NY fans never forgot that we could have had artest - to this day, that draft makes us angry.
The trading of Frederick Weiss is nothing more than the trading of a ghost, and the acquiring of ewing's son, a great PR move. We love this trade just cause it feels like you feel when your ex girlfriend's current boyfriend gets arrested for child molestation.
For your team, you save $400 grand for a guy you probably were going to cut anyway. For us, we get the Ewing name and we get to say goodbye to the most hated name in NY sports this decade (though, some yankee fans would say Carl Pavano and some mets fans migth say Kenny Rogers) - but Weiss is up there.
Fred - it wasn't your fault. You didn't ask to be drafted by us. You didn't promise anything, and you made us all laugh when you hit Vince in the nuts with your nose. It's notyour fault that you're so hated, but we're happy to see you go.
That's probably part of why Donnie did this trade. They had to be laughing about it in the front office. It was an exorcism.
and don't expect to see Freddy. His knees were breaking down 5-6 years ago. I don't even think he's still playing Euro ball. he won't even show up to try out. Weiss was traded for PR reasons, not player reasons. It was a brilliant idea by Donnie.

Ehh, at least we'll have a guy that was on the biggest poster in bball history, because neither of these guys will make a true impact on our team. Ughh let the season start!

Moofs,
Forgot one, easy to do w/all of Morey's moves.
Traded Novak.
Still think he's got one medium 29or 3) for 1 deal in him where he picks up a $5-6mil backup PG or C.
