Re: Dorsey?
It's more like McGrady and Yao need to take pay-cuts.

I agree. But this isnt the NFL where you can just re-structure your contract.

Re: Dorsey?
I wonder who is going to cave first. Landry vs Morey. I wonder how this thing works...do they talk on a daily basis or what? Like call in the morning,
Landry/Agent: "Are you going to give me 2.5 mil?"
Morey: No
Landry: OoooOkay. I'll call back tomorrow.
^that seems (Please Use More Appropriate Word) and it seems like it would go a lot faster (these negotiations). =/ I hope he wants to come here b/c I'd hate to have any player feel forced to play for a team. Especially a good kid like Landry.

Re: Dorsey?
Dorsey's waiting to see if Landry gets a relatively big contract after only 1 season. If so,he's going to want an opt out after 1 yr.
I imagine the Rockets had in mind giving Landry a contract similar to what Hayes got,$1.75mil-$2mil range. Landry-and/or his agent thought he'd get a MLE contract. Other bigs have gotten @$4mil this offseason,so I'd bet that's what Landry is saying is the market(esp the Turaif contract). Morey is prob saying Turaif-and the others-didn't get that kind of contract after 1 yr,and besides they haven't had 2 knee surgeries in 3 yrs.
Complicating matters is nobody else has made an offer that we know of.(If any have been made, they're obviously LOWER than what the Rockets offered.) Whether teams are scared of the knees, there's an understanding not to bid on each other's RFAs or they just don't think Landry is worth that much,no competitive offer means the Rockets have no reason to budge from their offer.(Other than the longer Landry waits to get his surgery, the later it will be before he can recover.)
One more thing delaying/preventing Landry's signing is Morey saying surgery first, contract second, whereas Landry is saying contract first, surgery second. This is a power issue where Morey may believe he can't afford to give in,otherwise players will feel they can get away w/anything. The Rockets let Woods walk because he didn't want to play Summer League like Morey insisted.

Re: Dorsey?
Nice points tisbee. Also I imagine the longer this draws out the more and more teams use up their MLE and there just won't be a market for Landry at all anymore. The only option for Landry then would be to go overseas (if that even is an option) or take HOU's offer.
I know it seems Morey is being a tightass or whatever but it's Landry (and/or his agent) who is causing this standoff. They won't even let doctors examine Landry's knee before he inks a contract? It would be absolutely foolish to give Landry a guaranteed contract without having some assurances that his knee won't be an issue. All this is doing is making it seem like they have something to hide and it's probably the reason he hasn't gotten any other offers. Landry's agent as far as I can gather is pretty new in the business as well. Maybe he's trying to make a name for himself?

Re: Dorsey?
We want to use the MLE and give him a 3 year contract , but we can't until we sign Landry.
Best case scenario we sign Landry soon and sign Dorsey to 3 years , worst case scenario we give him a 2 year deal , he will be signed for sure.

Where did you get that from?
We cut Woods because he asked us to , he had offers with more money and playing time in europe.

ShaY,
There was an article I read-don't remember if was online Chronicle or not-that said Morey wanted Woods to do certain things to make the roster and play in the Summer League was one of them. Woods didn't feel he should have to play in the Summer League and that's when he asked out.
This was back before Summer League started, beginning of July.
